Are any of you guys going to order hybrids? and what shafts for it? Congrats again on the awesome, once in a lifetime opportunity. Stoked for everyone.

I think I'm going to go with a hybrid. In the past I've played a 3 iron for off the tee, as my home course has a few really narrow par 4's. I don't think a 3 iron is versatile enough for me though, nor do I hit it well enough to justify having it in the bag. I'm not sure about M1/M2 at this point. I hit Jory's M1 3H and it felt great. I like the fact that it has adjustability via the sliding weight on the sole. However, the M2 looks beautiful with the matching black/white crown like the woods and doesn't have that "hybrid" look to it. It looks more like a small fairway wood.

Time will tell which one I go with.

@BCULAW

What shafts are you going to request to be put in your irons? I dont think I saw anything about this.

Pretty sure he's going with Dynamic Golf X7 hardstepped 2x.

Schnee, are you planning on replacing your Mizzy's? I've almost pulled the trigger twice on ordering a 770/750 combo set but can't make up mind between the TM and the Apex Pros.

Yes I am. I'm going to either go with a 770/750 combo or straight 770. Leaning toward the combo set. I hit the Apex Pros in a fitting last month before this trip and wasn't a huge fan of the feel.

No plans that I heard of. They did speak very highly of that model though and how high the ballspeeds were that people experienced. A few of the guys I spoke to played the 2 or 3 iron UDI's for a while. Switched them out in favor of a hybrid.

Ok thanks. I've got 2 of them in the bag that I love. Never found a hydrid I like.

I think it might be the very light HZRDUS hybrid shaft I have in mine but I don't get along at all with it. I have a UDI 2 in it and maybe the combo of wide sole and light shaft but I can't hit this thing to save my life.

I switched back to my 690 2 iron with x100 shaft last weekend and absolutely 0 problems and can work the ball. The thing looks like a butter knife. I don't get it.

My only experiment with a UDI (and a failed one) was a 16° 1iron . First it had a KBS Tour X, then I put a graphite hybrid shaft in it. It was just too low lofted for me lol. Hook machine!

Haven't decided yet. My old stand by is KBS Tour, but some of the newer offerings (Nippon, AMT, etc. ) intrigue me. The fitter I briefly worked with on the irons while we were there liked what he saw when I was hitting the 750s with a dgx100, but they were launching and spinning a bit high. He felt I could find a better fitting shaft (which I knew the x100 is too much for me) and suggested that I strengthen the lofts on the 750s by 2*. He said it was fairly common for the guys they work with to do this in order to achieve optimal launch.

One of my goals going into the fitting was to figure out this spot in my bag. I currently game a SLDR 4 hybrid turned down to 20* in place of a 3 iron, but I don't really like it that much - it just isn't a consistent club for me. I was hoping to experiment with their newer hybrids and possibly one of the GI long irons (M1 or M2) to see what was giving me my desired flights. Unfortunately, as has been mentioned, we just didn't get to this part of the fitting process.

Depending on what TM tells us regarding the rest of the bag and how that will happen, I might do another fitting here in town to explore these options. A 5 wood might also be a possibility, but I tend to think I'll hit it higher than I want.

Perusing through the Rory/Callaway thread here (http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1424004-rory-to-start-2017-with-callaway-in-the-bag/page__st__390) and thought of another thing that was mentioned during lunch on Monday. Tom Kroll made a pretty big point to say that Rory has definitely not signed a contract with Callaway. I got the impression they were expecting him to come back to the TM woods....will be interesting to see what ends up happening with ol' Rors!

He mentioned something like 17 out of 19 of the Nike staffers had made some kind of switch to TaylorMade. Take that however you like, but it was surprising to hear how large a number it was!

I forgot to put this in my write-up:

The process that TM uses in the Tour Department to shaft clubs is very cool. They use the same process on the tour truck. They use a proprietary expoxy, which when heated to 220°F, activates the bonding agent. The entire hosel is locked into these clamps here and heated. Unlike traditional epoxy, the assembled club is ready to play in 15 minutes.

In the past, TM used a metal adapter with a plastic sleeve or ferrule, like on the RBZ. Now, adapters are 100% metal so that they can be heated in these presses.

Can't answer about the Spider. I just know that I really was hoping for a red one and it fit me terribly.

As for the wedges, they were awesome. If we get the option, I'm going to be begging for a set of the raw model! Even the retail version was sweet, though. We even got to see the "yet to be released" black finish, which was quite nice.

I didn't hear that, but I did get the impression that a very highly ranked non-staffer might be throwing a JDay model Spider red in the bag very soon. No one said Rory specifically, but something in my gut led me to believe it might be him.

Awesome, I hit them in the bay at GG w/ tape on today and they felt good and soft forged feel to me! I game the SM6s now but really tempted by the TM wedge.

The red and black tour spiders are identical AFAIK. They both have a slant neck hosel and have some toe hang. The platinum with the red weights and sole has a double bend and is face balanced. It also has a line on the crown whereas the red and black do not.

I was fit into the platinum because of its face balanced properties. I was really hoping for the red or black. Not a huge fan of the platinum with red weights but it's something I could get used to. If they have any of the red limited version that came out earlier I'd go with that.

Question I'd like to have asked: With COR, MOI, and CG placement all being close to maxed out with current limits set by USGA, what features/designs can still be implemented by engineers to make drivers better than what's currently out? or do they think we will be at a standstill with advances, which will slow down new club sales?

Were any of you able to ask this question?

I answered this in my writeup. The guys on the metalwoods team and with R&D feel that there's a ceiling of improvement for drivers, but that we're nowhere close to it. They believe that despite the limits on COR, etc, they feel like they've got plenty of tech up their sleeves to keep on improving drivers.

Really enjoy these trip writeups. This is about a competitor, but am wondering if anyone at TM commented on Callaway's "jailbreak" technology and whether the titanium rods in the head offer a true advantage in producing ballspeed. I talked to a guy at a local store today (Golfdom) who said the Epic and new M1 are both nice, but said the Epic is a substantially hotter seller for them. Say it is delivering more ballspeed for most players who test it. I plan to hit both. I have not owned a TM driver since the R7, and I did not care for the '16 M1, but I do love the look of it. I find these larger rounded heads a bit hard to aim and I think the black/white crown is a little easier to line up. Also hear the 440 M1 spins as low as the Epic SZ, so am eager to try the 440. But just interested to know what the competition thinks of jailbreak -- a real game changer or no big deal?

The topic definitely came up, but I'm not sure we are at liberty to answer. I will say a couple of things with respect to the TM/Callaway battle. First, I expected a lot of venom directed at Callaway - a real nasty rivalry. The opposite was true. The guys at TM seemed to have a real respect for their counterparts at Callaway. I am sure that they interact frequently, and there was none of the ill will that I expected. Second, there were several old, obsolete technologies that came up in conversation (I.e., titanium golf ball cores, etc. ). The TM guys said something several times that tended to stick with me: if the technology is viable, it will stick and be copied. Everything that falls by the wayside is ultimately just marketing. We will know soon enough if jailbreak is a legitimate difference maker. If it sticks and gets copied, it's legit.

Peanut191 Pm'ed me about this, and since I didn't include it in my write up, and I'm not sure if it was answered here, I'd like to talk about the Deep faced fairway woods.

Last year, the Deep faced fairways were only available to Tour players. This year, the folks at TM said they plan to make them available to the general public! Don't have a timetable but they want to streamline and make most/all of the tour stuff available to consumers.

So keep your eye out!

That's great news!

I'll probably get. What one, I really don't know? As soon as they let us know what we'll be getting, I'll be doing a local fitting for shaft options.

#TaylorMadeTuesday

:smilie_tm:

I got a PM from HipCheck, subject line just said So... then inside it just says Want to go to The Kingdom? Does a bear crap in the woods? of course I'm all in! This was on February 14th (best Valentine's Day ever) at 8:25 pm at my kids hockey game! The wife was like "oh, great".

First off Thanks WRX and TaylorMade for everything! What a great packed 3 days of nonstop fun!

I'd also like to thank the four members that joined me on the trip! You guys are great and made it a blast. I cant wait to Vegas next year so I can get to know you guys better.

  • bculaw (Brian) Great guy that's been around the block with killer stories.
  • DNice (Darrin) Poor guy almost didn't make it. The golf gods definitely wanted you there, airlines tried keeping you away! Nice game that looks like it will hold up for ever!
  • drewtaylor21 (Drew) Wow! Killer ball speed! Poor kid only carries it 302!
  • Schnee (Chris) Nicest kid you'll every meet! Big teddy bear that doesn't have a mean bone in him!

The two chaperons

  • knudson81 (Brian the JINX) The real life walking and talking avatar. Super fun guy.
  • Zak This guy knows golf and equipment like you wouldn't believe and the game to go along. Even though Jory had 3 birds too your one.

I posted a lot of pictures that I'll add tidbits plus a picture is worth a 1000 words. Hopefully I wont repeat what you already know from the other reviews.

It didn't work as planed! I wanted to add little tidbits to the pictures, but my daughters laptop is not working out.

So the first like 12 photos are of headquarters lobby. Then we get to the greatest room ever. Its so cool looking at all the equipment they have. You name it they have it. I could stay in there all day and watch them put clubs together. Those red bins are just filled with heads, and did you see the Tour Shaft Matrix? The big red spider is of course the putter lab. Then Bring on the KINGDOM!

This was awesome! Beautiful wooded lockers with Tour bags on top and the 4 Major bags from last year. I asked about the 2017 Major bags a couple times to different guys and they all told me the same thing, nothing they could tell us

The third stall with all the goodies was packed! If the weather would've been nicer we would have our own fitter outside to hit all those gems.

After the cool ball presentation I went in the putting studio while the others did the ball test and driver fitting. Duane the putter guru was great. The putter fitting room was so cool. I got a picture of Duane finding 0 (zero) in the room. The cameras in the corners of the room find where zero Is. If you don't know where zero is then you really cant get a real putter fitting. It shows you how your taking the putter back, open, closed, angle into the ball. I was driving the ball into the ground not good.

After about an hour of putting I went over to the ball test (TP5x vs Pro V1x). This was little nerve racking with the camera crew and everyone watching you jump in and hit 6 iron. Long story short TP won out. The TP launched higher but was about 5 yards longer with the 6 iron. The wedge was higher with more spin then 1x.

Driver fitting with Jason was next. I was the last one to go, either Jason is that good or he just wanted to be done for the day. He asked how long I was playing this driver and I said about 40 rounds (that's a long time for a WRXer). So he had me start with my gamer (Callaway XR Pro 9* set at N and +2 loft with the speeder 565 stiff) hitting about 6 shots or so. He hands me a driver and bang I gained 20+ yards shot after shot. M1 8.5 STD setting with the weight all the way forward and all the way on draw, with the Hzrdus Black 6.0. I wanted to try more so we tried the GD Ad BB 6s in a 9.5 head and same settings. Even longer yet. Then we hit my gamer again just make sure. I was still longer and way more consistence.

I'll continue later when I can get this computer working or another one that wont take me days to finish. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, please don't quote this long boring post!

Thanks Jory and Ryan for everything you've done for us! You guys are first class and TM should be very happy the way you guys represent the company!
