Nicklaus is private so hopefully you have a way to get on there. There are a lot of great courses in the KC metro. A few of my favorites are Falcon Lakes, Falcon Ridge, Stone Canyon, Canyon Farms (private), Creekmoor, Sycamore Ridge, and Tiffany Greens. Need more info. Are you looking to stay close to one area or don't mind driving?

Nicklaus Golf Club is private, but if your pro calls ahead, he might be able to get you on. Guest fee will run you about $115 after cart, I believe.

bhj83 put together a pretty good list above. I'd probably recommend Creekmoor (if you can get on?), then Sycamore Ridge and Falcon Lakes.

I think Falcon Ridge and Deer Creek recently went private as well.

Falcon Ridge still appears to be semi-private; you can book non-member tee times online, and my brother in law and I played there last July.

Deer Creek is kind of hard to tell, the "book tee times" link on the home page is password protected but if you go to the drop down menus you can at least browse available times without being logged in.

I don't love Deer Creek. No range, quirky tight holes. I think there are a lot of better options in the area.

Staley Farms is a decent, private course. It has the craziest greens I've played on in this area so if that's your thing and you can get on there, it's a good track to play. I'd rather play most of the courses I mentioned above though.

How is Milburn Country Club, so far have the Nicklaus Course and Staley Farms

I've never played Millburn, but heard it's a nice, challenging course.

tiffany greens is pretty good and on your way out of town as well.

stone canyon is on the north side and i liked it when i played it years ago - though it's been on unstable financial footing - so no idea what kind of shape its in.

on the private side of things, i think The National is my favorite track in KC, and it's on the northern side. that one might be tough though depending on the status of your home club.

i've heard good things about shoal creek historically, but haven't ever played it myself.

shoal creek wednesday for 18 than home

Just curious, if you don't mind answering...how did you get on Lion's Gate? It was my understanding that reciprocals were almost impossible to get there.

some thoughts on Q.....

1) Joe's has the best pork ribs and best beans

2) Arthur Bryants has the best pulled pork

3) Jack Stack's crown rib, beef burnt ends, and sides are the best

4) Gates has the best sauce

i haven't lived in KC for a few years, so places like Q39, Woodhouse or whatever, and some of the newer ones are unfamiliar to me.

if you're mega hungry, just go to Jack Stack and get the Jack's best platter with a boulevard double wide IPA for the table. you'll sleep well.

I'm partial to Jack Stacks beans. Have yet to try Q39, but I've heard good things.

Pork Z-Man from Joe's is my go-to for BBQ and I've tried all the main ones. I live real close to Bryant's and rarely ever go there. Not a fan of their BBQ flavored vinegar they serve as "sauce."

i love bryant's sauce, but i think Gates is the best and its what i keep at our house.

it really depends on what the group wants to do. for work stuff, if people in from out of town wanted BBQ, it was pretty much always jack stack. so if you guys want a nicer, sit down, longer meal, go there.

Quick lunch is Gates. if you've got more time to stand in line, or you're a big fry guy, or just gotta have ribs, do Joes. if you want to do O-G BBQ...go to the original Arthur Bryant's where the pit has been going continuously since the place opened. you've got to have the right crowd for that though, it's in a bit of a sketchy area, as evidenced by the armed guards patroling the place.

even most places nobody is talking about, like Zarda, is solid. the only one i've been underwhelmed by was Rosedale. if you polled 100 locals though, you'd probably get about 50 or more people saying Joe's is their overall favorite.
