Is there any way to harden the feel of Teryllium insert?

I currently game the Button Back but find the Teryllium insert too soft for my liking.
I used to game non-insert putters before and I feel that BB's softness is costing me strokes.
I've practiced and practiced but just cannot get used to the insert.
Simple solution would be to go back to non-insert, but I really want to keep the BB. And I will NOT change to harder ball.
That being said, is there any way to harden the feel of Teryllium insert? Appreciate your input guys.

Im not sure if thats even possible. you could if you want contact somebody who does custom work and have them put in a different insert. Thats probably your best bet. hope I could help

Agreed, just get the NP2 Select.

 

Another option is to try changing the grip. I have been amazed how much changing a grip can change the feel of a putter.

I'm on board with the 'change your putter' school of thinking - albeit I've known a different shaft and cunningly-positioned lump of lead tape to make a tangible difference to the way a putter feels.

About the only way to change the feel of the putter would be to remove the insert and plate it. You could nickel plate the insert or maybe do a satin chrome. That would give it a little bit crisper feel. But then you would have what looks like (from a distance) a studio select!

Sell that Buttonback for a whole lot of money, and buy yourself a nice putter without an insert...It's as simple as that. With the money from your current putter, you have the choices of a Bettinardi, Byron, TP Mills, Scotty Cameron, etc. Like Nike, just do it...

Sorry dude...that's almost like asking how to make a porcupine feel soft and cuddly, but I can understand how you feel.

 

Just a curious question to throw out there...can you have a custom sound slot to added to help change the sound/feel?

Great answer. The Callawy iX feel like rocks and offer much more auditory feedback. Instant firming of the insert.

Thanks everyone for your comments/suggestions. I don't think I would go as far as plating the insert though haha.

Although I said in the beginning that I won't change balls, Callaway comments intrigued me to at least give it a try just for the hell of it.

As far as all the Studio Select comments, before the BB I used to own Fastback and Newport 2.7. I had good success with the 2.7 but I just think that Studio Select is too common and lack the exclusivity factor lol

I demoed older SC Studio Stainless aka tiger's putter today and it felt great. I might pick one up.

Take out the insert and put it back in with epoxy, which is relatively hard, it will give you a firmer feel.

I was going to recommend something similar. When I made my putters with the copper insert I looked at the "elastomer" or caulk as others call it and just like some of the TEIs I have was too soft. It felt mushy and I did not care for it. The TEI's without the elastomer surrounding the cavity always felt better. So I experimented with a couple of different items to get the feel right. I tried Epoxy and it retracts a bit when it hardens and wasn't the feel I was looking for. I finally settled on a JB Weld type material. I would not recommend this for yours but it is an option.

 

Try removing the insert and using epoxy for the filler. That way if you do not like it, it can be removed and the "elastomer" can be put back in.

Good looking out guys. Just to give you guys an update, I bought a sleeve of Callaway Tour ix. And I also picked up SC Studio Stainless Newport Beach for pretty cheap. I also found out that there's a local shop that specializes in Camerons so I will give them a call to see if they can do the epoxy work for me.

I could be wrong but on all of the older Terrylium putters the elastomer is just something to clean up the face so there is no gap between the insert and face. On the putters I took apart there was never anything in between the insert and the back of the face. Could have changed on the new Terrylium putter though!

take the insert out and put some bonding material behind it to make it harder.. or maybe a few coats of clear nail polish across the insert?
