Apple Watch for Golf

Recommended Posts

The Grint app just updated to use the native gps in the watch, without tethering to the phone. Provides distance to green, carry to hazards, etc. Can track the score and upload directly to your Grint sponsored handicap. This is a great update. I believe it's free!

I'm also using Trackmygolf which tracks swing data. The distances don't include carry data which sucks... That and It's like $20 and the analytics still need work. But this could be promising for those that prefer complete stroke / club tracking.

I've been using GolfShot GPS since it came out and do pay for the service it offers which i believe is $15/yr. it also keeps track of my GHIN and i can post scores from the app. on the watch, it will give you green distances. front, middle and back. I'm able to post my score, putts, what club i used on the tee, if i hit the fairway, sand shot and penalty shots which is all good to keep your statistics round by round. on the app, it will give you more detail like club selection depending on where you are (you have to input your club distances), hazard yardage, flyover preview of the hole, pin point a yardage reading. track you drive (start from the tee box and stop where your drive is to track some distances).

i enjoy the app a lot. i haven't used the other features like booking a tee time (now see there's more discounts though my local munis don't use it), i use it on my iPhone alot more than my apple watch. i sometimes leave my watch in my bag or use it only for distance. i have my blood glucose monitor system (type 1 diabetic) on my iPhone that is also on my apple watch so it's a little easier to read than opening my app on my iPhone.

you can also link your friends who have the app OR just keep their score on the app and write their name in.

Will AW2 and golf 19 app work with overseas courses? My Bushnell does

but if i can use one watch for everything even better.

I'm in Australia, and have played in Asia, and hole 19 had all the courses

Do you need roaming enabled for that or are the courses stored on the phone so that you can download them in advance?

No, you can just download them beforehand when you're on Wi-Fi and the courses will be stored on your device for offline use, so no data is consumed.

Anyone have actual pictures of the 19 hole and the Grint on their AW2? Also would like to see hazard yardages as well.

I wish I would have kept my Garmin VivoActive HR for the golf course, as my Apple Watch is horrible. My tattoos on my left arm cause my Apple Watch to lock every time I turn my wrist, so I can never see distances. It's pointless. And wearing it on my right arm doesn't feel right, and when I swing it takes a million screen shots, and clicks the button multiple times.

I toyed with the 42mm Apple Watch 2 today and there is no way I can use this watch without reading glasses. :/

do you normally wear glasses? what can't you read on the watch? i can read mine clear as day and don't have good eyesight. my wife also has a 38mm SS AW and have no issues.

I hate to sound really naive :)

But how do I get Hole 19 to work on my Apple Watch?

I downloaded it on my phone, and have my phone connected to my watch. But when I pull the app up on my phone my watch doesn't do anything.

Now again, be easy on me because I just got this watch and honestly don't know what I'm doing with it so far lol

you have to open the app on your watch...just like any other app you want to use on your watch. press the crown when the watch is on.you should see the hole19 app. if not you have to have your phone load the app onto the watch which is in the watch app on the phone. does that make sense?

You may need to go into the Apple Watch app on your phone and ensure Hole19 is set as installed and set to "show app on Apple Watch".

I think there's been a recent update as when I start a round on my phone, it now automatically opens on the watch, which is great.

My biggest problem thus far is that the AW goes to the home screen between many shots which forces me to go back into the app to get a yardage

check your settings Stetson. further, goto settings on the aw, general, wake screen, make sure "on screen raise show last app" is set to always.

Is there any app that just keeps score/statistics for the apple watch? I use a rangefinder but would like score entry through the watch. Thanks.
