I have a friend who loves to correct me at every turn. Today it was regarding Tiger's birdie shot on 16th at the 2005 Masters.

I said he chipped it and he made a big deal about how it was a pitch. I argued that it was a chip since it had a low trajectory and it carried 1/3 and rolled 2/3 of the way. His argument was that most of the roll was due to the downslope so technically it's a pitch. It's an immature argument but can you guys tell us who's right?

Also, does anyone know which club Tiger used on that shot? We both didn't know :P

You guys are clearly rookies at immature Tiger debates - check out some 1000 threads on here!

Chip!

To some the definition is if the clubhead passes the hands it's a pitch.

This is how I understood it. For a chip shot the club stays low to the ground. For a pitch, the club head passes the hands and goes higher.

This is a little too vague, albeit in the right path. If pitching and the club sticks in the turf, it doesn't just become a chip. And like a bunker shot, a pitch shot need not have a wrist release...

So to summarize... he used a sand wedge, no, 9-iron, no, 60deg wedge...

He used all those clubs for that one shot. The replay clearly shows he's holding 3+ clubs.

Question, are you still marketing yourself as the next Sean Foley?

No, I do want grow to be a great teacher and I really enjoy the opportunity to coach the best in the world, but I'm more focused to try to grow the game through instruction and player development at junior level and coach low-mid handicappers looking to play good golf

You're both right, it is a very immature argument (and appears this the right place for immature arguments). But seriously, in my double digit hacker opinion it was definitely a chip (but my short game sucks so what would I know?).
