This certainly comes down to personal preference but I recently pulled out of my backup bag a Scotty Cameron mil spec pro platinum and i love it. I forgot how great it feels. Very soft for a non insert putter. I have tried the O-works putters and like the softer feel but I think I like the feedback I get from the pro platinum better

I guess i am just not someone who will pay $400 for a putter so i will suggest the Cleveland 2135 with the copper based face. Very nice putter for $129

As far as materials are concerned, brass feels the best to me. It provides a combination of soft and solid that can't be matched. If you prefer blade putters, this is good news because you can find cheap heel-shafted blades. I have a Hogan and a Ray Cook that I picked up for less $40 shipped. You can also find cheap near center-shafted blades--Bullseyes are everywhere. I have a flanged Bullseye that was my number one putter for over thirty years.

 

One consideration is that most of these cheap, older brass blade putters aren't perimeter weighted. Golfers with lousy putting strokes find them "unforgiving".

Any feedback on the last of the deep milled Scotty blades - the Select Newport 2 2012 vs. 2014?

 

I have the 2012 and it rolls great, but could feel better.

As others have mentioned here, it is a very subjective question but I will give you my 2 cents on the matter. Feel is the important thing to me. The best feel I've gotten off blade putters are the PING Cadence TR line that came out in 2015 and the Anser Milled series that came out in 2011. I always wanted to like the SC Newports but the feel was always off for me. The Cleveland Classics and Huntington Beach model retail for $99. I've found that people are put off by the low price but I found that I could roll every Cleveland better than any SC putter. I won't go through brand by brand but IMHO, as a guy who tried every single blade in the last decade or so, the PING Cadence TR, PING Milled and the Cleveland lines of recent have felt the best for me. The new Odyssey O-Works also roll very nicely.

Depends what you like obviously. If you like a really "soft" feel, the best combo would probably be any blade with the white hot insert and a very low compression ball.

 

Most firm feel, just grab any thing that's milled from a solid block of stainless and pair it with a ProV1x or Z Star XV.

The white hot rx roll really great. I also like feedback, so inserts that tend to be soft I am cautious of. Have not rolled a ping putter in a long time. I currently have a bettinardi bb32, which I like. Sometimes I just miss the simplicity of the blade style.

The softest was the Mizuno black carbon series by B. That grooved FIT face made the ball feel like a knife going thru soft butter...luckily, that type of face is pretty available these days...:)

I have the 2014 Scotty roundback and it feels SOOOO GOOD, I'd assume the Newport blade is the same...again, I wish my 2012 Newport felt like the 2014 Roundback...must be different milling processes.

I tried contacting tp mills. Received one response then silent. They seem to get really positive remarks on feel and feedback plus their turnaround time is fairly quick, at least that's what I read. Also looking at bettinardi studio stock, but can't find any to roll around me here in Dallas.

If you can draw it on a napkin, Lumpy will make it.

 

I just sold my Mann Ma66 Nickel plated carbon that was one of the best feeling putters ever, just needed to go Long neck. Contacted Lump and had him make me a Long Neck Carbon with sound slot. Such an amazing feeling putter
