Silicone cloth for putter care???

I bought a couple of Beechwood Casey gun and reel silicone cloths to help me care for my carbon putters. They feel dry to me and have a nasty odor, but I follow the instructions and rub the carbon steel with them and my putters seem to be lightly polished when I do this. I also feel a very light coating on my hands when done.

Do all silicone cloths feel dry? Is this very light coating enough to protect my beautiful Mills putters? I'm just wondering if what I'm doing is going to be enough to keep my putters in great shape, or if I need to get some 3in1 oil, or baby oil. I was hoping the silicone cloths alone would do the trick ..... but I'm concerned.

That is what I use...but I will also periodically give the putter a quick coat of spray silicone. You can find a lot of suggestions on here as to what kind....I just try to find something that is 100% silicone (no petroleum products or other oils).

One of these cloths will definitely keep your TP Mills from rusting...some people even keep them right in their headcovers. If I'm playing a wet course with a carbon putter, I dry the putter with a regular towel throughout the round, and as soon as the round is done I use the oiled silicone cloth. This has worked perfectly fine for me, and I have no rust on my putters. Scotty Cameron sells them, as does Black Oxide Service, but many people just use their own. I use the Cameron one, and it is pretty loaded with oil. Everytime I touch the thing my hands are narsty (part of the reason I don't use it during the round).

Funny thing is, TP Mills ships putters with 3in1 oil and recommends it. Scotty has a silicone cloth, and sometimes recommends baby oil. I was hoping the silicone cloth would be the easiest way .... I just don't want to screw this up, I LOVE THESE PUTTERS

Recently got a Klassic, and a Tradition. They are fantastic. Traded in a Mil Spec to get the 2nd Mills. Couldn't be happier.

Now I search for a Softtail. The Mills' are my favorites.

I can't speak to TP Mills putters, but I have had several Camerons that came with a silicone cloth. I ending up just using WD-40 but others stay with the cloths or used baby oil. The Camerons HATED moisture and REALLY hated if pesticides and salt were added. I sprayed oil inside the headcover and ALWAYS dried it off when I finished. It is NOT OK to throw it into bag and dry it off in the morning; it will rust almost instantaneously. Like some other attractive items, they are high maintenance.
