Argument needing to be settled

heel shafted putter + sbst guru-Pelz= BIG MESS on your stroke.

If you're trying to say that his putting form isn't pleasing to the eye, I would agree with you. That said, what it looks like to the rest of us irrelevant; it's what it feels like to him that counts.

Personally, I don't understand how anyone uses a heel-shafted putter. But I'm sure that there are legions of heel-shaft fans out there. Whatever works.

That is not what I am saying. It has nothing to do with form.

Try a heel shafted putter, it generally fits a "gated" stroke. I can confirm that from personal experience as well.

Pelz is the numero uno advocator of the sbst stroke. It doesn't match up.

I agree with your statement completely but you've got to believe that both Phil and Pelz are smart enough to know this as well. It does not look to me that Phil has tried to change from a gated stroke (which is matched to his heel shafted putter) to a square-to-square stroke as typically advocated by Pelz. Still, I think that Phil should focus more on feel and getting the ball in the hole rather than over analyzing everything with Pelz.

How many of his victories came before, how many came after hi switch to Pelz? What is the time period of each?

That's irrelevant; if you're on the PGA Tour, you're a solid putter...But to kinda answer your question, Phil had 2 wins last year and already 1 this year. His putter is working just fine. 2 wins and bunch of high finishes is a good season (not everyone can be like Tiger).

Phil is a good putter. There are many ways to measure his skill. I was trying to check up on one. He may have been a better putter before he hooked up with Pelz. He may be better now. That makes it relevant.

Next question. what were his putting stats with Pelz and without?

I'd have to say that he is an average putter on tour and you don't really see him sink a 40 footer for the tournament but he does have an incredible short game so he doesn't have to worry about getting it up in down because you know he going to hit it to 10 feet at worst with a wedge in his hand . he has strenghs and weaknesses and i wouldn't say that putting is one of his strengths

As most have stated he is a really good putter, the only thing holding him back, IMO is the fact that he has missed a few clutch putts when he really needed them, but so have a lot of people. In fact Brad Faxon, Loren roberts etc. wish they would have been in the siutation to miss those putts a few more times in thier lives. So IMO Phil is one of the best putters in the world, and is just a few missed clutch putts away from being really great. Tiger sets the bar really high here, like he does with most things, so let's not lose perspective. Tiger is one of the greatest clutch putters of all time, if not THE greatest, Phil just happens to be not quite as good.

I need others opinions on this question because me and my roomate are both too bull-headed to admit we're wrong.

Q. Is Phil a bad putter in your opinion?

Yes....and you are both wrong.

Assuming that neither of you are on Tour and/or higher ranked than Phil in putting, then you have no basis whatsoever to judge someone of his quality.

Streaky.... oh yea!

But so far this year he's doing a pretty good job with the flat stick.

2009 stats say.
