Warrick's WITB - Titleist takeover?

Recommended Posts

Nice irons Warrick! I thought the same thing when I had a chance to demo the 900 Forged. I really like the brushed dull finish. I never cared for the super-shiny chrome glare.

Just curious, did you have to adjust the lofts at all, or did you leave them stock?

Nope, standard lofts. I figure it won't hurt me to pick up 5 yds a club.

How do you like that Ogio Silencer bag?

Only way to go for me, love it, will buy another when needed.

I'm excited to see how the JPX compare to your MP5s over time. As an MP5 player myself it makes me just a little sad to see those blades leave the gamer bag though.

It will take on course performance to actually remove the 5's from the bag. I like them enough from what I have hit to give them a chance when the 2017 season starts.

I once had a set of the 850 forged and couldn't get into them. Any idea how these differ from the 850? Might have to give these a look....

I never owned the 850's but hit em a few times. I like the feel of these better. It is hard to describe the feel on these, but it is something I find myself wanting more of. The 5 iron at least is much easier to hit than my 5's, at least in the garage. I really need to get out and play with them, but that could be a while.

I love the simple satin look, perfect transition to the T7's, and they just look right with C-taper's, shafts and head finish almost a match. I actually think the 9-P are more compact than the 5's in this set also, and the PW in the 900F almost looks to have less offset.

This is a simple, clean looking iron that has a nice feel, and provides a little bit of help. I can't wait to test on course for ball flight and distances, but am confident the ball flight with these shafts will be perfect, and should pick up a few yards with the lofts slightly increased. I needed 5 yards anyway.

I heard that!

About the look at address compared to the MP5... Yeah, the 900F looks very much like a true players club from address. Then you look at the cavity and see there is some tech there. Nice blend of modern and classic. I like the matte finish too!

I'm looking forward to see what you think of them as time goes on.

Nice bag!!!

No, Iowa. I do hit the Sim every Saturday morning.

Which fairway? The new SZ 13.5 arriving tomorrow?

I play the 816 Alpha now, have 3 of them, was testing a Mini 1.5 (have several short par 4's not requiring driver). I sold the Mini 1.5 and a 815 DBD to fund my SZ purchase yesterday.

I will be bashing on it Saturday morning.

GBB 9* Rogue I/O 60 - dual sliders - 46"

When you gonna put a JPX-900 driver in the bag.

Will test on course with the 2 Epic's this Spring, only 3 I am considering, but really like the feel of the GBB

You use game golf by any chance? I have that same bag and picked up some GG tags over the holiday deals. Iv been slightly worried the two may clash.

Nope, sorry.

  • 2 weeks later...

First round of 2017 today. The course was a bit wet, was about 50, greens were really long, slow, most pins frozen in still, but it was golf.

Few quick thoughts....

Epic is for real, not 100% sure if it will unseat my GBB for the $$'s but is in consideration

GBB - awesome driver, hit it great today

Epic SZ fwy, was a gem at the sim, not very good on course today, but was really wet, got in the mud on one, then was not wanting that again, hit a bottom boarder. I need more time on course is all.

JPX 900F - sublime, and picked up about a half club that i was hoping, very happy with the first round, threw a few darts.

T7's - get out, absolutely perfect in every way, super wedges

Hybrids are what they are and may not change for 8 years, as I have another new set, they just work.

All in all a solid first day, had 2 birdies, only one double, hit the driver like it was mid summer, stuffed a 50* to 2 feet.

Only real battle is top 2 spots

Driver GBB - Epic GBB

Fwy 816 Alpha - Epic SZ.

Come on warm weather

So I have some time in with the Epic's now, they are firmly in place. Driver is 9* "animal style" at 46" - second slider is 8g - T800 55g - 6.0, just loving it. The SZ 3+ is also just fantastic, Rogue I/O 70, hybrids set, irons/wedges set, but am testing some Nippon Modus3 Tour 125 shafts, that may go in all the way through from 5-LW. I have partial set on the way. The 900 Forged are everything I hoped, really like them, T7's are firm.

I do have a new flat stick coming that will complete the bag. I will post more pics when I get it in hand, but this is something kinda special to me, so excited.

  • 2 weeks later...

I made another post with putter pics. I was a bit nervous after day 1 with the new putter, was not used to the new insert, but 30 putts today in windy conditions with 2 lip out's, feeling more comfortable and confident, love the feel and look.

Nippon 125' are sweet, rest of the set will get swapped over this week, no more 130 C-Taper, whew....

TP5X is new ball. I still have 6 dozen of the older ones, but at this pace I may not need more than the 2 dozen I have, have rotated 2 balls from a sleeve and have 70 holes them, have not lost a ball, covers still look great.

Epics are money with the T800's, Callaway nailed this stock combo Mizuno's are like love all over again with the new shafts.

Nothing left to test, nothing to look at, nothing I want except warmer temps and a bit less wind for ideal golf conditions. I am pumped for 2017.

All set now...lol.

Epic 5W to replace 3H, Nippon 125's installed. Season pass to be purchased Saturday morning. All Epic woods have T800 6.0. 55g in the Epic driver, and 65g in the SZ 3+ and Epic 5W. TP5x is ball for the season.

Let's play some golf.

No, sadly. May have them in about two weeks time. Have the M2 driver but nothing else. I like the M2. Been trying out different back up shafts, as I don't love the HZRDUS yellow they fit me into. Popped in an aldila black 7X yesterday and really liked it. Tried my old AD DI 7X in it too, but for some reason I seem to have lost my love for that shaft. Ah well. There is a Cally demo day this weekend and I'm slightly tempted to go see if it can beat my M2.

What all do you have coming?

fwy wood

milled wedges

750/770 combo

Callaway did a real nice job pairing this Epic and the T800. It almost seems idiot proof for us mortals, which is good for me.

Fwy: M2 15 with Diamana B 80g

M1 17 (thinking to loft up as a 5 wood): same shaft. I also have TM backup shafts, hence the reason I went with an M1

770 with modus 130 stiff, 4-GW

MG 54 and 58 modus 130 stiff.

Berwick putter

Think it will be a nice setup. I'm hoping the modus 130 pairs well.

Love that new putter with the short slant neck. Certainly one of a kind there man. I see Odyssey is doing a lot of putters with that neck in the tour pics I hope they come to retail with some of them.

Yeah, have really taken a liking to it, 2 of the 4 rounds have been under 30 putts, and I am not known for my putting...lol.

Odyssey has never "tanked" a v-line fang (for retail anyway), add the neck, and I am not sure there is another out there (unless another custom).

I had fun with the 5w today, just hit a natural baby draw with it, and I have not had that consistently with a long club, ever, hope it continues to stay that way. Driver is stupid, 23 of 28 fairways last 2 rounds.

I just need to get irons sorted a bit, been a little steep, and a bit inconsistent.

I have to go get the ribs and chicken rubbed up so I can throw em in the smoker and head to the course.

April baby, golf season is here.

Warrick, I see you settled on the 900Forged. I know you tried out the 900Tours with different shaft and didn't like them, you think it was all the shaft or the irons themselves/both? I hit both at golfsmith/galaxy and really couldn't get into the Tours. I liked the forged, but the blade length was almost a little too long for my liking, almost.

It is hard to say 100%, maybe a mix. I loved the clubs, was my favorite iron to look down at, but just did not make sense. I was just not getting the same #'s as the MP5's. Once I saw the 900F and realized they also looked really good, it was a pretty easy choice. I don't need to make this game more difficult. I may still take the 5's out from time to time, but am loving the 900F with the Modus.
