Rule violation call at The Masters, win big - poll

poll above is pretty telling of how people feel on this

Agreed. But post that same pole in the Rules forum and it would probably >90% would call it in for free. Some of those guys seem to love the rules more than golf itself, especially the minutia that has no material impact on the outcome of a shot. It's almost like a religion to them and to speak poorly of the rules or USGA is like blasphemy.

I think they love quoting rules because it makes them sound smarter than everyone else.

what is frustrating is that there is a lot of misinformation out there. And when people strut around clamorimg that the rules are stupid when they don't even know rule can be counterproductive.

Most people there are more than willing to help. Quoting the rules allows us to learn them and where to find them. But just like in this forum there are some trolls.

Then if these rules gurus/gods are going to take the time to educate themselves on the rules to that degree, when everyone in golf knows that to truly understand the intricacies of said rules takes lots of time, then don't sound like and talk to people like a complete dick as many, many of the rules know it alls do on this site. I've said that in another thread or two, and now several other people have spoken up saying similar. If you learn the rules to that level, then it would be a much better thing for the game to learn how to talk to people and help educate others on the rules, since they are by no means simple to understand, or honest even make sense most of the time.

You know and I know that talking to people like a dick is not confined to the rules forum. but sometimes people need to be willing to be taught and quite frankly some people are just too closed minded to the purpose of some of these rules and how they came about.

So - what is the email address(es) and phone number(s) to contact the Masters rules committee referee? This information should be made readily available, shouldn't it?

The fact that it isn't should tell us that it isn't just some couch potato that gets through.

The tour does have their phone #s on the website

http://www.pgatour.com/company/contact-us.html

Whether that general number gets you anywhere I have no idea, but I always wondered if they just blame it on some anonymous "fan" rather than taking the heat. Blame it on the "fan" then they can just say "Well, we had no option but to investigate it"

But taking the time to learn the rules to that level, shouldn't those people also want to try and be good ambassadors and stewards of the game? Or did they just gain the knowledge of the rules to purposely be dicks to those that are less educated in the rules? Because I've watched many of these so called rules know it alls talk down to and be very condescending to people posting for the first time.

But yes, you're correct in dicks not being confined to just the rules forum here. You see it a lot with the rules of golf though.

I've already mentioned why it might be frustrating trying to educate people who aren't willing to listen or learn the why's and how's.

Ive watched many people strut into rules convos with theirs flies unzipped, complaining about problems yet never being able to offer a solution other than "rules are dumb"

You can see how these things go

shovel-ier shovels
