Ok - let me thread hop here - do you use graphite or steel shaft in your 2 iron?

Me - using DG X100 currently, switching to graphite.

I think the Argument for using steel shafts is slowly fading. It's still there for irons, somewhat, but for woods and now most recently driving irons. I say no way. Graphite is the only way to go.

I am on my 5th shaft in my cobra utility. I wanted the dispersion and launch of my steel iron shafts but in a 100gram range. Of course my use is 99% for a driving iron. I play modus 120tx in my irons and settled on a speeder tour spec 9.8x hybrid shaft. Still early but its definitely close to what i was looking for.

I picked up a 20* UDI last year for the sole purpose of using it as a driving iron. Wasn't sure how it work otherwise, but my home course has three holes where I need a lay-up/super accurate club. It certainly fit the bill, but I was also shocked at how well it works of the deck. I play the '14 TM TP CB's (enough initials for you?), with a five iron being the longest iron I carry. The UDI fits the gap between my five iron and five wood perfectly. It plays very similarly to my iron set, feel-wise and ball flight-wise. Great, great club.

If you don't mind a used club, I highly recommend the Titleist 712u. I have a HZRDUS black 105 in it, and it hits absolute bullets.

I play graphite in EVERY club now. I was one of those(41 yrs old now) that played steel in my driver forever, then finally switched to graphite. My 3 wood was steel even longer. Graphite has come a long way since those times. There are quite a few guys playing graphite (Recoil and Steel Fiber and others) on tour, if it is consistent enough for them then no one on WRX can say it is whippy or inconsistent or anything like that. There are not as many options so you may not find graphite that fits your swing type or you don't like the feel, but the old reasons for not playing graphite in your irons is gone.

... True dat. You can find graphite iron shafts that play tighter than steel with less torque and a stiffer profile. And some perform virtually identical to steel with better feel and of course shafts that are more "helpful" than steel with a softer tip or mid section. I started playing graphite in my irons when I developed tendinitis in my elbow and installed a set of Aldila NV Tour irons that were 130gms and had 1.5* of torque. I had been playing DGS300's and these were more accurate and had the same balance point and weight as my DGS and cured my tendinitis. I have been playing graphite in my irons ever since and could not imagine going back to steel. If you play 3 or more times a week the difference in the shock value to your body is a godsend, especially as you get older.

Apex UT with recoil 110 is in my bag, especially on windy days or tight courses.

I used to have that same combo. Great feeling club but ballooned on me into the wind. I found the Steelfiber or Aldila RIP alpha to work better to keep the spin and launch down. I've got a DG AMT I'm thinking of swapping into either my Apex UT or UDI to play closer to my set.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the PING Rapture. I tried a UDI a year ago and was not a fan. Didn't like the stock C-Taper shaft and the feel of the head wasn't that good. I recently picked up a Srixon u45 20* and PING Rapture TFC 949X and the PING blew the Srixon away. Feel, forgiveness and launch. I'm surprised at how easy the PING is to hit and the stock shaft feels really good.

Srixon U65 18* (current) and Ping Rapture (previous) have worked best for me. The X flex stock shaft in the Ping was great. Not a huge fan of the Miyazaki shaft standard in the Srixon. Swapping mine (X, but very loose feeling) for an GD AD95X that should be much tighter and do the trick.

Let us know how that shaft feels in comparison to the stock 7x. I play the 20 degree with same shaft and find it too light and loose as well. Hit some really good shots and then some not so good with the stock shaft. Club head looks and feel amazing though.

IMO, the Taylormade UDI is the best! - The stock KBS C-Taper Lite shaft is fantastic!...

The Ping Rapture DI is the easiest DI to hit and I've tried most of the betters ones out there...TMB, UDI, Apex, etc. Its got such a wide sole that you can really hit it from anywhere. The only problem is that it isn't very workable in terms of controlling the height or distance of the shot. And it only comes in the 2 I believe. Unfortunately, that doesn't fit the gaps I'm trying to create so have to go 3 UDI instead.

I use a MP Fli Hi 2 iron (18*) at times, but I'm still evaluating other options. I think the King Utility, Mizuno MP-18 MMC Fli Hi, and Srixon U65 will get a try out very soon.

Taylormade M2 L.I.F.T. is seriously unreal. I got the 2 iron to test against the 2 iron UDI. Didn't expect a huge difference, and boy was I wrong. The club is really awesome. I'm still going to get the new P790 UDI 2 when it's released. I just don't think it can get any better than the L.I.F.T. for me.

I previously had the Rapture and the Apex Utility. Of the two, the Rapture was longer but the Apex more accurate, at least for me. I loved the look of both of them.

These clubs were both super fun to hit. but I just don't play enough anymore to justify having more than one "fun" club in my rotation. so i sold them off. Also sold my TM mini driver.

the only remaining soldier is my Rapture strong 3 wood. so hard to find, i just can't bear to part with it!

JP Use a srixon zr Uti at 18*. Use a project x 6.5 shaft. Easy to hit low. It’s forged but also a hollow head.

Hi.

You probably might look at the DI now in terms of how the bounce presents itself. Some guys want more of a base like a hybrid provides while others want more of an iron like bounce. JP is okay with both, but his Srixon’s bounce is more iron like....

I've got a Callaway x-14 pro 3 iron with a 2 iron-length Matrix "made for" shaft out of a TM RBZ three wood that is x-tra stiff. Ping Aqua grip. Call it the "Frankeniron" or Frank for short. Good off the tee or turf, only draw back is the sole is a little narrow for shots out of thick rough. But, my course has a lot of tight lies so it dependable for more shots than not.

Just dropped off my 23* Edel CB iron to be re-shafted with a KBS Tour Proto Hybrid 95g X flex shaft. Looking for a bit more juice out of that part of my bag that can also pull duty as a tee weapon. Hoping it will be a bit neater fit for the gap between my Apex 2 hybrid and the rest of the Edel irons. Anyone else have experience with the KBS hybrid shafts in driving/utility irons?
