My SM 3.5 is like about 3-4 years and it is a great bag. But the dividers are not full length, so there is tangle with club from other dividers as well. Any suggestions to full length divider bag with 5-7 way top ? Hoofer/hyper lite 5 or others ? Or is full length only those with 14 way top ?

14-way stand bags for me as long as they're full length dividers. I like the organization and minimal club tangling. I tried to go back to the 4 or 5 way bags and couldn't stand it. Regardless of whether I'm using a cart or stand bag it has to be 14-way!

I am trying to find a good 14 way full length divider bag. Like to spend about 130....don't mind something used. Any ideas on good bags to search for?

4 way bag for me. Nothing more satisfying than struggling to shove a club in the bag and it not going in due to all the club tangle.

Global Golf typically has good deals on 14-way Sun Mountain bags. I paid around $130 for my SM Four 5 custom (no logos) and I absolutely love it!

There's a myth that 14-way tops are heavier than 4-way tops. It's simply not the case as there are a multitude of 14-way tops that are the same weight as their 4-way counterparts. Adding some nylon dividers and plastic up top adds so little weight that its barely discernible. Plenty of offerings from Sun Mountain, PING, and Callaway that offer a 14-way top in the 4.5 lb range. A half pound to a pound extra strapped to your back spread across both shoulders is nothing.

Now, with all that said, 14-way tops are really only of benefit if each individual divider goes all the way to the bottom. The point of a 14-way top is to keep the clubs more organized, but also to limit grip tangle at the bottom of the bag. If the dividers don't go all the way down then the clubs will still lean and tangle all they want, so it's still going to be frustrating getting the clubs in and out of the bag. In this case I actually prefer to have the 4-way top because it gives more room at the top of the bag to maneuver the club around when taking it in or out. It's all preference though. To some the added value of organization at the top of the bag is more beneficial than grip tangle, so having 14 full length dividers isn't a make or break option. The problem with 14 full length dividers is added cost and the fact that there are not many bags on the market that have it.

So, what's my preference? I actually prefer a 5-way top. My current bag is the Nike Sport Lite II bag and it's incredibly lightweight which is great for walking. The top is basically a PING 4-series top with an extra well up top for the putter. It's fantastic as you have the putter in the very top section that sits just above the section for the woods. Then you split the irons in the middle sections, followed by wedges in the bottom section. This way the woods and putter headcovers don't get tangled and there's plenty of room for getting the clubs in and out.

I'd disagree based on my experience in comparing 14 way vs 4 way stand bag weights. The 14 ways are traditionally noticeably heavier to me. For example, a SM Three 5 was always significantly lighter feeling to me vs. a Four 5. Some of that may be due to the 14 way bags typically being bulkier than their 4 way counterparts (more pockets, bells, whistles, etc.). That said, I've yet to compare a 4.5 LS 4 way to a 4.5 LS 14 way, that would be a good test and may change my perceptions.

I just bought the SM 4.5 LS in both the 4 and 14 way dividers and the weight is identical on our home scale, 5.4 pounds. Couldn't decide at the store so I bought both bags to see which one I like and will return the other.

After comparing both bags I ended up keeping the 14 way top. My decision was based on the fact that I don't walk as much as I used to so the majority of the time I will be riding. It keeps the clubs organized and still very practical for a carry bag. I really liked the amount of space of the 4 way but I disliked how my putter is almost too short for the bag and got in the way of my wedges or woods depending on what slot I put it in. The opening of the 4 way is enormous! Outside of that, the bags are identical and I wish I could keep both but the wife shot that down. :)

Here is a comparison of the two tops.

I have owned several of the Sun Mountain Four 5 bags, including the very first model it came out. I've tried other 14-way like Ping and the Mizuno Pro Stand but they have a four way with a 14 top.

I have a SM Four 5 willing to sell (navy color) from 2 years ago in excellent shape if anyone is interested. The new 4.5 are cool but the colors are too much for me.

As you can tell by my many posts/questions, I had the choice recently. I ended up ordering a Callaway Fusion 14 stand bag with my club logo.

After knee replacement, I won't be walking and carrying very much. I'll mostly ride, but occasionally may use a push cart on easy walking courses. I like stand bags, though, for travel and especially for use at the driving range. I think this one will be the best compromise between my desire for a lightweight stand bag, but my use mostly on carts.

I don't like the 14 way tops at all. Hate having to find the slot to put the club back (I know, it really doesn't take that long).

I have a C130 with a 7 way top and a putter well. It's a great bag and I love it. But carrying it anywhere is such a pain that I don't use it much.

Have a C130S. Great bag, lots of room. Love having the stand mechanism at the range. But it has the 14 way top, and only a single strap. So it's in the office (along with the C130) holding extra clubs.

Have an original Ogio Grom. The woods management system top, has a putter well. Has the rubber strap to fasten the bag to the cart without running the strap around the bag. Really like this bag........but the pockets are so small......it's in the office too.

So the one still in play is a ratty old Titleist stand bag. 7 way top (no putter well), good pockets and decent straps. But the legs are bent and I'm afraid it's not going to last much longer.

I want a SM 4.5 with a 4,5, or 6 way top. With a putter well. And a good sized, velour lined valuable pocket.
