GolfWRX Members' Choice: The Best Players Irons of 2017

Attention GolfWRX Forum Members! After providing your expertise with the "Best Driver of 2017," we need your help again figuring out the answer to the question "What are the best Players Irons of 2017?”

We've broken down players irons into two separate categories: Players Irons and Exotic Players Irons. Vote on Best Exotic irons here.

Vote in the poll above for Best Players irons by selecting exactly three models. Remember, please vote based on your personal experience with the irons. Things to consider include distance, forgiveness, workability, trajectory control, looks and feel.

After you've voted, in a post below, please explain exactly what lead to your decisions. You can use any format you'd like in your response, but we've provided an example below as a reference. We want to hear about launch angle, spin rate, stability on off-center hits, sound… everything. And don’t forget to tell us about the differences you saw in your fitting between your old gamers and your new gamers.

-- Iron Model 1: I like the forgiveness this iron provides, while still being workable. It provided me the best over all numbers.

-- Iron Model 2: I like its sleek look and buttery soft feel. The long irons fly longer and straighter than my gamer set and with better stopping power.

-- Iron Model 3: This iron, for whatever reason, just fits my eye the best and I can really control trajectory. I can hit any shot; low, high, cut and draw."

Thank you for participating, and the results will be posted in the coming weeks in an article on our front page!

Apex Pro 16 is outstanding in performance. Loved the size and control. Feel was good but I liked the '14 year model feel better. Just didn't like the look of the backside.

Wilson FG Tour V6 is really really good. Love the classic looks and thin top line. Feel is outstanding and absolutely love the higher lofted irons which work best for my gapping. Hard to get the shaft I wanted, though. Forgiveness is excellent but at the loss of a little shot shaping ability (very similar to my Hogan PTX, so I wanted more control, particularly in fading shots).

Mizuno JPX 900 Tour - weak in the knees from first look at the satin finish and compact size. Feel is excellent and there's just enough forgiveness to get what I deserve. Many easy to order shaft options and excellent custom fitting sold me on the right fit without extreme up charges. I guess I'm less traditional but prefer the satin look. This is a club I love to practice.

In general I'd say this is a great time for players irons with so many outstanding options!

Why is pxg on the poll of best exotic? Shouldn't it be here right next to Ping? Doesn't that make more sense?

Also, why are the Titleist irons all here, but the TMB is listed on the same exotic poll?

Mizuno lost my interest with the introduction of boron... I was excited to see the 900 tours, but that waned quickly. I do really wish I could comment on the MP-5's though, they're some of the best looking clubs I've ever seen.

To me, it's a toss up between Callaway's and Srixons. The Srixons are longer with great feel, and more forgiving. The Apex pro's appeared a bit smaller to me, felt nearly as good, and played more traditionally in general, to me. IMO, considering all of the irons on the list, it's an easy choice to narrow down to those two, and a difficult choice between those two. They're all good sticks though. There's no denying that.

Unfortunately I do not own the latest versions of the clubs I voted for. I'm currently playing a set of Titleist MB 712 which are wonderful, great feedback and distance control. I disappointed with Mizuno because they don't make left handed MP5. I have a set of MP68 and previousily owned TP9,and MP32 Now they offer certain models for lefties where as Titleist and Callaway offer a full compliment for lefties. Like Mizuno a number of the others on your list do not offer player irons for lefties.

Wilson Staff FG100's if you must have a true blade. Feel is soft when pured. Shaping the shots are a joy, and although they look intimidating to play are surprisingly easy. V6's are just as smooth but are ideal for someone who needs a tad more forgiveness. Two highly underrated and overlooked irons.

If only the 100's came in left< wow are they a gorgeous club! hands down the best looking club out there.

Are AP2 really "players" irons? I understand there are tour pros that play them, but when it's the the third most "players" iron in a lineup behind the CB and MB, is it really?

Played Mizuno JPX 900 Tour irons for a few months. WOW! Great mix of buttery feel and forgiveness. Easily able to shape shots. Unfortunately, my time on the course was not enough so went with a different set.

Apex Pro is a great players iron. Hit it extensively on a few different occasions. Good result but the feel is not as good as JPX 900. 3rd choice is the Ping iBlade. Great forgiveness with excellent workability. The feel is fantastic for a cast club.

Had a massive iron fitting session earlier this year which included most of the irons in the list (No Bridgestone, Wilson or Exotics) and came away with the following top 3 (though a lot more are very good and very close IMO in all honesty)

-- Taylormade P750: Unprecedented feel for me paired with DG shafts. It provided me the best over all numbers, consistency and flight. Excellent workability, but of course, the other side of the coin? Unforgiving...

-- Taylormade P770: Still very good feel but not quite the same as the P750 strangely. Higher launching, Not as good ball flight for me (I struggle with too high a ball flight rather than a low one), but more forgiving without a doubt. Less spin than P750.

-- Callaway Apex Pro: Very nice feel and plenty of forgiveness. Workable and consistent. still higher launch than P750 but nice spin numbers. would tie this with the P770 really.

Titleist AP2: If Jordan Spieth thinks they are good enough to play on tour they are good enough for me! But in all seriousness, I just had a club fitting last weekend and the amount of forgiveness Titleist has managed to build into an iron that is also workable at the same time is mind blowing. I do not think there is a better iron on the market today.

Titleist MB: If the AP2s were not as forgiving as they are, this would be Titleist's flagship iron. Buttery smooth contact combined with that clicky sound of a purely struck ball is one of the best feelings in golf, and the MBs provide just that. Not to mention the top line....

Mizuno JPX 900-Tour: It's a Mizuno forged iron.... What else needs to be said? I loved the top line of these irons and they really have done some incredible things with the small cavity in the bottom of the blade.

Ap2 are definitely a great iron. They have been with every model since first launched. To me it's more of a players/game improvement blend rather than a true players iron. Just because a tour player plays them doesn't make them a players iron. Zach Johnson had an Ap1 4 iron in his bag for a number of years. He's a player but that's not a players club.

There's no boron in the 900 Tours, so I'm not sure why that's an issue.

Callaway Apex MB - Raw blade, does anything else need to be said?

Mizuno 900 Tours - This is what I bought this year. Love the satin finish and it's very forgiving for it's size.

Srixon 965 - Would have bought these clubs if my 900 Tours didn't work out. Great sole/grind for diggers like me.
