Naked?

Recommended Posts

got new set of clubs lately and contemplated for about 2mins......then decided to go naked.

my logic was 1. you're hacking the clubs into the ground, what more damage can you do 2. if you cover them up you don't get to look at them during the round, miss the point about getting beautiful clubs

also i find if don't travel on a cart, the clubs will not chatter as much.

That was also part of my decision. I mainly walk, and that is much gentler on clubs than riding, at least on my courses. Cart path potholes, clumpy rough, woods, they all make your clubs crash into each other.

But, if your clubs are the Miuras in your avatar, cover them up! Please!

haha i should post pics of my old Miura set, used them for about 3-4 years, it's still in really good condition without using any covers

I think walking instead of riding is a key to avoid chatter.

Well I just went through this myself as I bought my first new set of blades (MP-4s). I did end up with iron covers but I am not sure how long it will last. Before that I played a used set of 690.mb's and never once thought about covering them up. One of my concerns was actually the shafts on my woods as the new headcovers don't have a 'sock' that protects the shaft all the way down into the bag, so that is what convinced me to get the iron covers. I am thinking that once I play the irons a few times and decide that I am never going to get rid of them, I'll probably pull the covers and go naked.

I think that is the way most iron coverers go, they get some gorgeous blades and cover them, and the after a while they go meh, too much trouble and time, and losing them, and finally we go naked. And there is validity in the argument that they are tools of the trade, and are going to get beat up. Kind of like trying to protect your beautiful Avet casting reel from the salt water...

imo wear and tear is normal because after all we play with them, not keep them in the office looking good

what i can't stand is dirty clubs and unclean grooves...i think it's worst!

I started out just using the covers for when I kept my clubs in the trunk, but after leaving them on a couple of times while playing, I just leave them on. They do not slow me down, are easy to work into my routine and keep my clubs nicer for later sale. Basic club glove neoprene. They do not fall off and are easy on and off.

I do occasionally get some grief from players about the "they are tools", "you beat them in the ground" but to each his own.

I don't use them on my second set of clubs, as I have no intention of ever selling those.... (no one would want them).

How anyone tolerates bag chatter is beyond me, there are more than a few bag solutions to keep clubs secured in place and quiet. I haven't tried Ogio's new silencer system, but I have the older chamber cart bag and it does a phenomenal job of this, it should be a bag industry standard for sure.

Love bag chatter and rhythmic noise of clubs clanging around on the back as I walk. Doesn't get any better.

No covers for the irons but I do keep covers on the driver, fairway wood, and hybrid. I walk mostly and usually just toss my towel in between them so they don't rattle around. I got a buddy who only rides a cart when he plays so when I do go with him I throw everything into a Bennigton Quiet organizer bag that keeps everything from banging around.
