Well here is a small project I have been working on. It is a Circa 62 #2 that I rescued from certain death. I will continue to post the updates...I hope you enjoy

I used aircraft paint stripper to get out all the paint fill. Then I use 220 grit sandpaper on the really "rough" parts. Then I use 320 grit to shine everything up and remove the rust. Then I use 600 grit or some 000 Steel Wool for a good "buff" to the metal.

That is just awesome. I have one of exactly the same model coming in the post for restoration and now I'm doubly impatient for it to arrive after seeing your pics.

 

How long did you flame it for and did you use any substance on the metal (oil dip etc), or just a straight flame on the bare metal?

 

BTW: on my previous flaming experiment with my Studio Stainless I found that it wasn't necessary to strip the paint. After a few minutes flaming it simply dries, powders and falls out.

I had a flame on it for about 5 minutes. No oil or dips.

 

The one thing to make sure is that you shine the metal before you flame it.

 

Unfortunately, I can't get my SeeMore to do this. Scotty's don't make you a better putter, SeeMore's do.

that turned out pretty well, nice work, perfection for me though, would be red instead of lime green

we'll talk about making it a real custom scotty...I think that would be very cool. Maybe we can look into making it a Solana Scotty...lol

they have blocks of 303 sitting around their shop, and they are nice guys... maybe i can get them to just mill me out my own design... give them some money... that would be sweet.

 

i'm taking my irons down there and having them sand blast them, and machine some stuff on them!!! and then throw a secret finish on them

Let me know when you are planning on going to the factory, I would like to go with you and check out what they can do. I have a couple of project for them.

well...it isn't a lot of science, but there is definitely some "art" to it.
