Chasing Scotty:

It is a very interesting article. Its about the "small guys" trying make it on tour. They talk about T.P. Mills, David Mills and Whitlam to name a few.

I am only through the first page so I may be jumping to conclusions. But it sounds like the non Scotty putter makers cant even get credentials to stand near the putting green at a PGA event to even have a chance to let a pro try their clubs.

It talks about Bobby Grace and how I look of a TV camera of a PGA pro can turn a nobody putter designer into the "new next thing"

Well I gotta finish the article and get back to the discussion after the read.

Personally, I believe Cameron is an ok putter designer and a master marketeer. His putters are better than average but short of your Bettinardi's, Chuck Long's, Bruce Sizemore's, etc...

 

It eats at me the way people worship the ground he stands on.

I agree. Never tougt of it that way. Its seems like it could have been anyone. Seem like SC was in the right place at he right time. I dont believe he have %75 of the fan fare he does if he hadnt been w/ titleist the whole time. Who knows it could have been TP MILLS, he could have been the current SC.

Doesn't matter how good a designer or marketeer he is the fact remains he struck gold with the one putter he made for Tiger Woods. As long as that one lasts his urban legend will continue on. In reality all the other premium putter makers are just xeroxers of the original anser design much like Scotty. And until another Tiger comes along and uses their putter they will remain pretenders to the throne. Odyessy has more innovation than any of those premium material putter manufacturers--usage also shows that as well.
