X-Tours

Bending
To those who own a set of X-Tours, do yourselves a favor and send them to Callaway to have the lie's adjusted. They are very fragile and I just learned a very costly mistake taking them to my club fitter, who is very experienced. Let Callaway do them and if need be replace them if the welds pop. :drinks:

I've had 5 sets of X-Tours and never had a problem with the welds cracking because I noticed from the beginning that topline weld will crack if put in vise too tightly before adjusting. I learned it hard way while trying to adjust a Titleist 503H a while ago.

It sounds like your clubmaker did not notice or paid attention to the thin toplines of X-Tour. It pays to have a good clubmaker to be very observant of any possible breakages or potential mistakes. Best way would be to send them to Callaway but I don't have the patience to wait that long before getting my set back.

Just tighten them in lie/loft machine vise just barely enough to keep them secure. After adjusting, loosen them and then retighten lightly to make sure the desired measurements are correct. It usually takes longer to adjust a set of X-Tours but it's better to be safe than to be sorry.

I use Mitchell machine.

I hear ya. I have faith in my clubmaker, he's done more sets than he could count with no problems. Mine just happen to be more fragile than the others apparently???? It's all good, he felt horrible and gave me full credit for them. I got a new set of irons and a hybrid (ironically not Callaway). :drinks:

It could happen to anyone who hasn't worked on XTours in the past. Actually, nearly every iron sets in the past would've stood up to the pressure of the vise until this set of XTours came along.

It was very nice of him to make it up to you, you got a good guy with a big heart.

I have a set of Xtours on the way.I don,t want to bend them,I simply want to ask you why 5 sets? Were their problems?don,t mean to be nosy but your comment begged the question.

No problem, just a bad case of ho'ing X-Tour sets because I like them. Total of 5 different sets since last April; 2 sets with S300(one standard length, other 1/4" long), a set with PX 6.0 and 2 sets with Sensicore X100 shafts(one of them too heavy and other is my current set)

Sorry to hear about your problem guys!

I've worked on them quite a lot and knock on wood, I never had any problem what so ever...Not even putting any obvious bending marked.

I've always protect all sides w/ copper or brass sheet and watch where my clamping fall into.

I've modified my top aluminium clamp to sit perfectly flat on the top and protect it w/ copper sheet and silicon bushing/pad.

Thanks for the kind words and sharing your knowledge. But this may have been a blessing. :) lol
