Putter Question

My hope is to receive some feedback from players with similar preferences to me, but all feedback is welcome.

I use a Scotty Cameron Newport two putter and have since high school when I got it in '09. When playing H.S. and collegiate golf I played a lot of tougher tracks with much faster greens than many of the courses I now play on the weekends. When I was playing the tougher courses, I felt like I really needed a blade because I always had a biased belief or really a fear of blowing every putt by with some form of mallet.

I know my stroke well with my SC, and it isn't going anywhere. But I find myself leaving way too many putts short on these slower greens. And without the luxury of time to practice, it doesn't seem to be getting much better. I think I could benefit from finding more of a weighted mallet style putter for days where I play on these types of greens.

A little long-winded, but all that context was to get to the question, what type of mallet-style putter would you recommend for someone who's always had a preference for the weighting and the look of a blade at address. There are a million and 1 putter styles out there, I was hoping to get an idea of where to start. Really don't want to break the bank either, but I'll save up for something if I fall in love with it. I went on your journey a couple of years ago. Thought I was missing something in the new technology with my old Bullseye. I tried every model out there. Finally decided the problem was the "Indian, not the arrow"... worked on my technique and all is well again.

So... if you want to try something different, do it... if for no other reason than to convince yourself one way or the other. Good luck on your journey...:)

How about one of the Squareback models? Or if you like the new line, the M2?

You can adjust the weights too, maybe a heftier weight will help you get the ball to the hole easier

I actually like the idea of adjusting the weights. Can you just pick them up on eBay?

Yeah, but there are a ton of fake ones on Ebay (the weights)

If that doesn't bother you, then yeah a ton of them out there

Its a fun experiment for sure, and you can adjust for speed of greens, whatever

I'd go a Scotty Cameron Mid-Mallet like M1 or M2.

Ball really jumps off the face, but they aren't big and awkward like a lot of mallets are.

How about adding some lead tape to your SC? Personally I think you fit the weight of the putter to you not the green speeds, they change to often, mowing , rain, etc. I just try to pick up on the speed of the greens on the practice green before I head out.

I find that my eyes want to follow a big mallet head ( spider, #7 etc) on the backstroke, so I really have a hard time with them. I'm not as distracted by smaller mallets (#9, Golo, Delmar,) but they still bug me a bit.

Try a few things until you find the right fit...you never know.

I agree with adding some lead tape to you current stick as well....

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am going to fiddle around with different weighting options and see how it goes.

If you're playing slower greens now and having a hard time with distance control, you may even check the loft on your putter. Adding a degree of loft may do the trick without making other changes...
