Anybody know how to distinguish between a V2 and V3 visually? Also, anyone know how to distinguish the CK Orange from the CK Pro Orange visually?

Thanks

Pretty certain there is no orange, just the pro orange.

The shaft you linked is Tensei Pro Orange V3 which is now just called Tensei Pro Orange. V2 was and still is Tour only.

And, yes there is a non-Pro Tensei Orange.

Okay, so V3 is the one that can be purchased for $450.

Now about visual clues to which is which, any tips?

All of them prior to the final release will have PROTO and a shaft code etched in them. The final release will have Mitsubishi Chemical on the shaft instead of Mitsubishi Rayon. Without the boron tip, I'm not sure how they will distinguish the Orange from the Pro Orange other than the "TX" marking vs X other than the sticker on the butt of the shaft.

I believe the Pro Orange ones also have "mitsubishi chemical" on them rather than "mitsubishi rayon" due to the name change - though some could have the old name depending on production date.

They did away with Boron on the Pro Orange. There isn't anything printed toward the tip of the new Pro Orange. From their website...

We’ve replaced the boron fortified tip-section with MR70 – Mitsubishi Chemical's strongest carbon fiber to date.

I think you might need to check the butt for the sticker to confirm it was the CK PRO Orange and not a V2. I'm not sure how else to differentiate the two.

I know I have a V3 Pro Orange, that isn't my concern. But I'd like to think there is a way to distinguish for when these inevitably start hitting the BST and other sites besides word of the owner.

V2 will say Proto

V3 will not

In X flex the Pro will say TX and the non-pro will say X, any way to distinguish Pro S flex from non-pro S flex

I do not believe the V2 will say proto. I thought the proto V3's had prototype etched on them, but not the V2. I know there were some codes previously mentioned in a thread about distinguishing the two, but I don't see those showing up on the production V3s now, so may be hard to tell without seeing the butt sticker.

Mine V2 was etched with M2G081. I anxious to see how the Pro Orange performs for me compared to the White and KK Dual Core.

  • 4 weeks later...

The V2 doesn't necessarily have anything etched on it; some do and some of the later productions do not. The V2 says Mitsubishi Rayon and the V3 says Mitsubishi Chemical. The V3 also says MR70 near the tip.

That's my concern. The graphic on the website shows MR70 near the tip. If the shaft doesn't show this marking, then how would you possibly distinguish it from the non-pro orange? Mitsubishi has really screwed up with these shafts by simple not marking them with "pro" somewhere on the shaft. It leads to a lot of potential confusion.

You'd be wrong. They only make the TX flex in the pro version.
