TaylorMade Milled Grind Wedges

TT2017

Thanks, thinking I might add the 56 and bend the 58 lower. Have to get them outside for testing and see how they pkay

Any precautions in changing shafts with the red plugs?

I shafted mine myself and the 'bore' doesn't go all the way through. There is room in the bottom of the hosel for the regular TM bullet style weights. So when re-shafting I wouldn't worry too much about the red plug its far enough away from the top of the hosel where the heat would be applied. It was a concern of mine too, but once in hand it became apparent that they should be fine to be heated as normal. Normal to me is a hand gas torch applied applied in a focused area of the hosel.

I've now taken mine to the course and range and they are as good in performance as they are in appearance. The HB really is a Vokey K grind equivalent. The grooves are sharp and spinny, probably no more than any other new wedge, but nevertheless these grooves perform.

A winner for me both aesthetically and performance wise.

I happened to be watching Top Gear while coming across the news of these wedges where Jeremy Clarkson was bashing MG the car company for putting logos on everything. Anyone else see any resemblance of the car company's logo to the Taylormade MG logo?

On a more serious note, the Antique Bronze finish is the best finish I have seen in recent years. It provides the rusted look and anti glare qualities of a raw wedge but this comes right off the shelves. Last years Dark smoke PVD was pretty cool but the antique bronze takes home the prize.

I personally like the MG wedges. The red plug and milled sole give it a unique eye catching look. I love running my hand over the sole. In my mind the texture of the sole helps cut through the turf. I was never a big fan of the micro grooves and dot texture of the previous wedges. The micro spin milling is really cool. Been playing the 2014 TP wedges on and off for a while and love the heel relief on the sole. I'm glad TM did away with the ATV grind and added in a Vokey M grind to their LB wedges. The 2014 wedges were some of the softest that I've ever played and adjusted for lie/loft.

Glad to hear the plug doesn't need to be dealt with during a reshaft. That was one of my main concerns with these, even after finding out they weren't bore plugs.

How about insertion depth? TM wedges have always been shallow, especially compared to Vokey. Any change with the MG?

Had them for a week before offloading. The "milled" is more of a marketing gimmick that doesn't really make an iota of difference to the performance of this wedge. All in all, another decent wedge in a saturated market of wedges. Feel/sound is comparable to the old nike vr x3x series.

The milled sole is for manufacturing consistency. The stated bounce and grind will be the same from one wedge to another, so you will get what you are expecting and also be able to replace a worn wedge with the exact same performance.

I just got the EF wedges, but these MG do look really nice.

People bash TM for QC then bash them for spending money to fix the problem.

First part explains the benefit of milling:

The insertion depth is exactly the same as Vokey wedges, 1.5" ish. I actually pulled a shaft from one of my SM5's and used that until my new shafts arrive, so not shallow at all. As with TM's irons there is a 'lip' that stops the shaft being inserted too far, but there is space under the lip for the bullet style weights.

How is the glare on these when the sun hits it? They look good but a bright chrome look.

Any further thoughts on these? I am falling out of love a bit with my PM Grind 60 (still love the 64 though) and my eyes are starting to wonder. I picked one of these up in the 60 normal bounce at the store the other day and I was impressed. It was weird to describe, but it felt like the grind "locked" in on the fake green when I soled the club. Had never felt that before with a wedge. It was almost like when you soled a putter properly or the Smart Pad on the Cobra drivers, it just seemed to fall and sit how it should. I am not too concerned about forged, just don't want something that is too clicky. Mainly looking for something that I can cleanly nip the turf on short pitches without the bounce getting in the way.

The lowest bounce on these are 9 degrees so if you are accustomed to it they should be fine. You wont be able to flop these off hard ground. Well you can try. These feel really good when hitting a chip clean, the ball really pops out. To compare to the sm6 it feels a little less clickier. If your looking to nip the ball look for vokeys with 4 degrees bounce.

Yes. I have a 52, 56, and 60. The 56 and 60 glide easily under the ball, but it's hard to nip the 60. The 52 though is a different story; it feels really clean and spins nice on chip shots. Then again, I'm not used to 9 degrees of bounce on a 52. They feel soft on pitch shots, but on full shots I get a click sound/feel.

I would think the low bounce would be better off hard ground?

Is this the antique bronze finish or a custom job. That other pic on Instagram someone posted. Looks black. Is that a 3rd option? Thanks.

I think that was going to be the original antique bronze finish. There's another thread on here that has more pictures. It was originally black, but apparently TM decided to change it to more of a "bronze", so the release date has been pushed back.

I own the 56 and 60 in Lb with the kbs 610 I find they're very good off tighter lies compared to what I was used to, and I really find them to be one of more versatile wedges I've played. They aren't the softest feel but not super hard either kind, of right in the middle. I do think I like them more than the Ef from last year. I do find my short chips have been more consistent with these than anything I've played. I tend to hit wedges very shallow and the lb grind works well for me with my normal swing. I also find opening the face pretty easy too.

I have a 52, 56, and 60 all in standard bounce. I love them so far. Very consistent spin and feel on all shots. It's definitely not the softest wedge out, but I wouldn't call it "clicky" either. It's a firm feel with a dead sound. One thing that surprises me is that the 52 has 9* of bounce. I find that not to be very much bounce since I use it mainly for full shots, but it still does just fine. The 60 is easy for me to flop and hit off tight lies even with 12* of bounce. I could see myself using the LB around the greens and possibly making it a little easier, but I think it would make it tough on fuller shots from the fairway.
