... when your alarm doesn't go off Saturday morning, you are running late and still have to stop by the ATM to pick up some cash, show up at the course and see your playing partners waiting on the first tee. You then realize halfway down the second fairway you didn't didn't have time to make your morning "movement", and it becomes a losing race against time. First a golf towel disappears, next you are wondering which headcover may get sacrificed.

Wait....

Your own towel and HC or do you prefer to just grab a fellow competitor's and make off with it?

"Hey, where's my headcover?"

I regularly play with a guy who uses "Gold Toe" headcovers (meaning a tube sock with a black sharpie D or 3 drawn on it) so more likely his than mine. And I wouldn't have to tell him about it, everyone would notice my absence. And no, I wouldn't ask his permission, as one of my golf towels disappeared one day and he turned out to be the culprit!

You have a 9am tee time, and the course has tee time spacing so close together that they are already 30 minutes behind when you get to the first hole.

You just described every course in the Phx area.

I left my wallet at home and didn't notice until I got to the course. That was a long day.

I have to wonder about the IQ level of the director of golf or whoever has set those times to allow this. It has ZERO benefit to the course, and just p1sses people off. I purposely avoid two courses in my area because of this.

The thing is though, do you ever see the course not packed? People must really love the course enough to still play ut

There is a course in metro detroit that does 6min intervals and puts zero dollars into the operation; they operate out of a cart barn. All their profit goes towards the course. It is always in perfect condition. People always complain about the pace yet wgen ever i play it, its always packed.

Blackheath. Love playing that course, but only if it's before 7 am.

When the young guns I'm paired with: pull up in three power carts, dress like Rickey (need sunglasses on those days) spray the ball off the tips (all day), spend more time looking for their balls in other fairways than I spend pushing my clubs as I slouch my way through the round playing bogey golf, complain about the slow play of others which is causing all of their mishits and at the end of it all, proudly scream they broke 100.

I was thinking the same thing. Blackheath is a fun links course, good turf on the fairways.

But sanctuary lakes has to be the worst with overbooking. Backed up 40 min on the first tee last year. 6.5hr round of golf.. although the best round ive played

...when someone in your pairing has a chippo in their bag.

Used-Tru--Form-Chippo-Golf-Chipper_62421B.jpg

Heh, I was in a scramble last weekend and an older guy in our group had one of those!

Man variations of the chipper have been around since the turn of the 20th century and were used by pro's and amateurs alike. Funny how opinions change over time as to things I guess.

PS - No I don't use one..lol

When you're paired up with someone and the first thing he does is pull YOUR driver out of your bag and start swinging around with it, asking how you like it, and if the sliding weight will really fix his slice.

... when you see someone in the group in front of you at the first tee walking back to the tips with only an iron in his hand, wearing cut-off jeans and a tank-top to boot!

True story. A few years ago, I had made a tee time with some friends. It was Patriot Day or something similar where there had been a big advertising push to get people to play that day, with a portion of the proceeds going to a good cause. There was serious log-jam on the first tee, but everyone milling around was in a pretty good mood and joking around, since most were not expecting things to play quickly. That quickly changed when the group right before mine gets called by the starter to the first tee. The first hole was a 450 yard par 4, requiring about a 230 yard carry to get to the fairway from the tips. The group were clearly not experienced golfers, but decided to head to the back tee box of this particular 7,000 + yard course anyway. One of the guys announces loudly that he can't hit his driver until gets a good buzz on, and heads to the tee with only his 7-iron. First shot was a huge slice that nearly landed on the practice green to the right of the tee box.

You could literally feel the chill in the air as that group headed out. Nobody was in a good mood after that. Thankfully, the group quit after nine, since the pro shop basically had someone following them the entire time to try to get them to to keep up with the group in front of them.

Did the guy in the cut-off jeans and tank top ever have to poop anywhere on the front nine though, that is the bigger question!

Since a group was apparently waiting every shot should've been easy to tell - "Why are we waiting every shot? Wait, why is that guy in the wifebeater walking into the woods with a headcover?"

One twosome in front of me at Disney took their shirts off. It was HOT and I guess they wanted to get some sun. (Guys BTW - minds back outta that gutter) Those poor fellas were SO pale. By the time a Disney employee told them to get their shirts back on they had to be cooked.

You're a 0 handicapper and you get paired with 3 hacks that laugh at each other every time they hit a bad shot.

When you get paired up with the "scratch" golfer who gets annoyed when I'm having fun with my buddies.

It effects the zero playing with hacks more than it effects the hacks playing with a zero. I'm not a zero, I'm a 7. I played a nice course with buddies, who are all hacks, after 4 1/2 hrs looking for their balls in hazards and deep rough I lost interest. It took us 5 hrs to play and I'm gonna guess they donated 2 dozen balls to that course

Haha that's how I feel!

'scratch' or low handicap golfers should be prepared to play loosely or badly when playing with buddies who suck. one day you'll find yourself with good golf scores on your tiny piece of paper but no friends to share it with.

When you're good you can turn it down and have fun for the day (as many of the pros do on vacation...you think they shoot 60 in their board shorts on 'guys weekend'?) but if you suck you can never 'turn it up'.

What you do if your with 3 "lesser golfers" (hacks) is get them to agree to a 6 hole rotating partners match. You win all three and get paid for your trouble and each of them got to experience the utter thrill of being your partner for part of the day. Win-win-win-win.

When you are at the range for 30 minutes and no one has teed off during that time because the young men just rolled in about 15 minutes late for their tee time, hung over and unable to decide which of the 3 balls they see to hit.. When you tee off and then catch up to a group of four young men by the 3rd hole and they won't let you by because they're on their 3rd round of drinks already and all think they have a chance of getting the phone number of the cart girl.

Yeah, I'm one of the 60 year olds and that never happens with us. We walk a 9 mile course in about 3.5 hours. And if you're going to be on my lawn, please pull a weed or two, OK?

When your threesome catches up with a 5some (4 riders and 1 walker) playing a scramble type game in front of you on the 7th hole. They didn't let us through, holes 8 and 9 took 34 minutes.

We took a 40 minute lunch break at the turn to let them get ahead. We caught them again on hole 14.....

One longggg round today!
