Anyone gotten off their Directed Force putter?

I am admittedly "new" to golf after a lay off due to a family illness and raising a child..

 

And I am a bit of a gear whore . . .

 

I've gamed everything at the putter level - Odyssey, TM, Ping, Scotty, Evnroll, etc.

 

I'd read about the Directed Force putter and thought it was a complete infomercial. Seemed cheesy and seemed like it couldn't possibly work. (If it did, why hadn't XXX company come up with it?!?)

 

And then today. I went to a golf clinic at my club. The instructor had a few. He was a fitter. He was not there to "sell" putters.

 

In fact, he never asked us to hit them and never put them in our hands.

 

But at one point today, during a 10 foot distance drill, our goal was to put nine out of 10 putts within an acceptable distance.

 

I tried with my Taylormade spider and didn't meet the mark.

 

I went over and picked up one of his putters and I actually sank four of the first six putts I hit - let alone having the right speed.

 

I immediately ordered one after a fitting.

 

I am worried this will be fad (as I am known for), despite how well I hit it, and I will be on to the next putter shortly.

 

Any of you ordered these and had the magic wear off? Or are you still gaming/continuing to game them?

I rolled one a few weeks ago at a demo day, and had a similar experience. Hole got bigger inside 10 ft.

Hasn't worn off for me. Still love mine. Was down in Jacksonville​ with iteach this past week. Initial Sam numbers were good, got better with a few stroke tweaks, and since have putted real well on greens ranging in stimp from ~6 to ~12.

I have had mine in the bag since July 1, 2015. Definitely a record for me. I don't even have the desire to try anything else. Simply put, is the best putter I've ever used.

Short ones were fine but I had zero distance control. Zero. During my fitting, I was lagging 20 footers to tap in range; got on the actual course and it was gone. There was a lack of feel off the face that I couldn't overcome. I felt like the same stroke could produce a 10 footer or a 20 footer and I never knew which was coming.

 

Keep in mind that there's a very small resale market for these. They're fitted to the individual, you can't always unload them and it's a $400 experiment, not a $100 one.

I work in a golf shop and we were one of the first places to sell the Directed Force putters. Off the top of my head we have probably sold 75 of these putters. I myself have one and both the other guys that work there (one is the owner) have them. Tbh, the owner did sell his to a customer who had the same specs and was in the shop from out of state. This was when they were backed up with orders and it was at least a 2 month wait for the putter. So my buddy sold him his and ended up taking mine out of my bag since i wasnt playing much due to taking care of my wife who is ill.

I also freeky admit that i am a club ho, especially with putters. I love having something different in my bag so i have numerous custom putters from LaMont Mann, Byron Morgan, Bettinardi, etc. I'm playing more often now but i didnt want to mess with his putting. Lol so he is still using mine as i wait for a couple customs from Bettinardi. Lol

Nothing wrong with the putter though. Loved it when i was using it. I put a super stroke on mine though as i couldnt get used to the Press grip. It does take some getting used to for distance putting but practice fixes that issue.

My 69*/35" putter arrived yesterday. It's lights out. Love it.

 

I've never swung a putter that was as connected to me as this one. It doesn't fight/twist at all in the backswing.

 

I didn't sink every putt I hit yesterday - but there's no question every putt went where I thought it should have. Which is new for me.

 

If you're thinking about getting one but haven't because you can't lay hands on it first - do it. It's worth it.

Had mine about three months, I play once a week and one monthly tournament round. Worst putting was 32 putts, once! Best is 26 a few times. Have played on recently sanded greens to supper fast perfect greens, didn't matter. 3-4 footers are almost automatic but what is even better is my long putts are always on line, as long as I get the read accurate, I'm at the hole.

 

You do need some practice in the beginning to "readjust" your speed and how the putter feels on different speeds. Since there is no torque with the DF, initially had a bit of a struggle getting the ball to the hole. To me, felt like to the face was a tad dead. With a little work, no issues now.

 

Been playing for over 40 yes, this is only my 5th putter and thought my prior one was going to be my last, so I don't change very easily, but this one was a no-brainer. Nothing I've ever tried or used comes close to how the DF performs.

I'm about three full rounds and a half dozen practice sessions into my DF.

 

This putter is not a cure-all - but that's only because it can't overcome my aim.

 

I have yet to hit a putt that doesn't go exactly where I wanted it to go. Which is stellar. It's just that this putter has made clear I need to work on my reads.

 

I can honestly say this putter is truer for me than anything else I have hit.

 

This putter puts the results directly on my shoulders, which is exactly what I would want.

 

Looking forward to a full summer swinging this.

Yup, I had one for a couple months and my putting was never worse than with the df. Distance control was poor and there was no benefit for me inside 10 feet like I had hoped. I actually had this putter in the bag when I went on the TaylorMade Kingdom trip back in February and got to see my results in their 3d putting lab. My fitter Duane showed me that the issue was I consistently make contact slightly thin and toe side, with a stroke that is several degrees up in AoA. Long story short, my stroke is a terrible fit for this putter (or vice versa). The df already has quite a bit of loft and I was adding more, and any time you miss the center of the face, due to the design, the clubhead twists quite a bit (even if it doesn't twist at all in the lie angle cradle shown in the video).

 

So while it's obviously working well for a lot of people, it was a terrible fit for me. Fortunately there is enough interest in the putter that I found a decent resale market. YMMV,hope that helps!

i had my first two bad rounds with it over the weekend and am going to flip my ping ketsch back in to see if the lack of the huge aiming line is hurting my start line. I would not sell the putter since it is really good and i think my issues have more to do with my setup than anything else.

 

The technology does make it easier to put a good stroke on it but the ketsch is the best putter to aim that i have ever used.

I went back to my Ping Ketsch today and I feel more reinvigorated than the guys with trophy wives in those Levitra commercials.

That's a shame that it didn't fit for you. I wonder if they will introduce variations of models to tailor to each player?

The putter only has 1.5 degrees of loft. The kingdom did a great job of talking you into one of their putters.

But it sounds like it could be a poor fit - may need more weight in the head -- it's apparently a light head with an aluminum face. Given that combo, I'd asked the fitter for a heavier head.

I've been on and off with my Directed Force but am going to give it one more shot. On the practice greens, I've been very accurate with the DF, but have had some issues with alignment during rounds. At times, I am having issues aligning my body with DF and also my ball position seems to change at times. Not also sure on the Press Grip and may swap it out for a Superstroke.

I don't know what the static loft of my DF was, but I was shown 3D data that clearly had me presenting more loft at impact, which is what matters. Sure, TM fit me into one of their putters, no argument there, but I'm putting miles better than I was with the DF, so I'm glad they did! FWIW, they fit me into a putter 2* stronger than standard.

 

Like I said above, the DF works well for some, but it was awful for me. I encourage anyone to try it, get fit, test it out, but I think it's valuable to present both sides of the story. When I was shopping around for one, I didn't see many negative reviews, which certainly played a role in me purchasing one.

I'm not taking a shot at you for your post, simply putting a number to the actual loft of the putter. You said it had "quite a bit of loft" and I just wanted to make note of the actual loft. The putter is definitely not for everyone, the looks alone are tough for some.

They came out with a blade version at one point but i do not know how they sold since i have yet to hear someone who uses it. The putter probably fits fine, i think it is the press grip. At first my putts were hard to control speed then the last round i used it i was opening the face on everything. If i could find a way to have the shaft and grip not forward press statically i think it would be a winner all day.

 

I am not selling it, i am keeping it around to keep testing it for now.

My buddy Chandler had the blade. It is the only prototype that was sold. He is money with that thing. Feels amazing. I have heard they may be releasing it at the PGA show in January.

But I was also barely off a few greens today and that lowered my number.

Just sharing my experience with someone who asked about it. Turned out that there was a huge difference between a relatively flat practice green and actual course conditions.

 

It's pretty much never the putter's fault. They all work; doesn't mean people putt equally well with all of them.

Viewing TGC, I saw PGA Professionals in their tournament, and briefly watched Mike Dobyns rolling in several long putts with the DF - impressive.
