MizzyMazz,

Not sure if you're still interested in the Fli Hi, but whe you PM'd me a while back I said I'd give a review so hear ya go... This is a cut paste from my thread in another forum.

Alright guys, as promised - an update after putting my new driving iron together.

I got to play a course yesterday that I've played probably 50 times, but for the first time in years. Its a terrific, tournament style track right on the Gulf of Mexico. As you can imagine, high, swirling winds are what makes this course most difficult. It also played extra long as it was incredibly wet. Yesterday was the first day in a week with no rain. In fact, we just had a tropical storm come through so it was legit wet (cartpath only, too).

Range was closed due to weather, so had to go out cold. Only got to hit the DI 2 times, but both were absolutely PURED. I was so excited, I had to get it out to the range again this morning at my local course. Here is my feedback, albeit certainly still in the honeymoon phase:

This club absolutely provides that renown Mizuno "butter smooth" feel the same way I've come to know through my MP 57s. MP 62s and now MP 4s. This club has the "cut muscle" design and same forgings as the MP 57s so I felt pretty comfortable swinging it. So literally, 10/10 in the feel department. Feedback is as good as any similar club, you mishit it, you'll know.

Ball flight was TERRIFIC! Absolutely what I was hoping for. On course swing produced a slightly higher ball flight, but that was expected as I was trying to get a little extra height for greater carry on the wet course. On the range today, it continued to produce a low straight shot to a low/mid 5 yard cut. I honestly felt as confident swing it as I felt with my 9 iron in hand.

Distance was what I hoped for. 225 - 240 carry depending on how hard I went after it with low spin and good roll out after the ground had dried a bit more (though still wet) this morning.

Ultimately, I have $58.17 put into this club after club head, shaft, grip, shipping and tax. I am not lying when I say I would have paid $200 for the results I am getting this far.

Huge thank you to Stuart G. for all of his help early on in my search for a good fitting shaft. Stu, this Aldila NV feels so smooth and so perfect to me. Its an 85g X 2 iron shaft, but feels as smooth as anything I've swung.

Sorry for getting a little long-winded on this, but I thought there may be one or two who cared to hear some feedback on an incredibly productive and overlooked driving iron head and shaft that flat our performs at a great price.

Sort of a side question but are clubs like these any good from the rough?

No-not really. Anyone who says otherwise is just boasting about their ball striking ability.

... Deep rough where you can gouge out a hybrid is not applicable, but I have had success from the light rough or if the ball is sitting up a little. Obviously not gonna get the same flight or distance you get from the fairway but I will use my King Utility form the light rough depending on the lie.

I used the cut muscle version of the Mizuno MP Fli for ages and it's a Stellar club. Just picked up a Ping Rapture DI for $50 though and it is stellar. Personally prefer the rapture but that probably because it just transitions into my irons a little better.

Yeah that's a club I've always wanted to try, too. Always been a Mizzy iron guy though so the Fli Hi made sense.

that is the one draw back to these clubs they are harder, not impossible but harder to hit anywhere but off a tee. i have hit mine out of light rough and been ok. i have hit it off the fairway a couple times. all with mixed results. it can be done but i dont think it is something that i would want to do very often. it all depends on what is ahead of me.

the utility iron shines off the tee where you can hit a bullet into the fairway and have it be controlled. if i fear a tee shot it is my go to club. i trust it more than my three wood and i dont have to worry about it hooking as much as a regular hybrid.
