Titleist 718 AP2 and AP3 Irons: Shot at the 2017 Quicken Loans National

Recommended Posts

AP3 almost looks like a z565/765 combo... that sole slims down so much from 3 iron to P wedge!!!!

I'll be bagging AP3 3-4 or 5, 5 or 6-8 AP2 and 9-PW MB I think..... I'm ready

Wow, TM or Callaway would get railed if they dumped 6 iron sets in a day.

The AP3 are analogous to The Story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. AP1 too big, AP2 too much of a players club, AP3 seem just right. Does anyone know when we can expect AP3 on the shelves?

October 2017.....lame.....golf season is almost over in half the country at that time.....wish it was a Spring/Summer release.

i know they usually launch their new products about then but they don't usually leak photos of new products this soon. it would be a mistake to launch in October when alot of the hype as disappeared

Do the AP2's look more compact then the cb's now? The look really small.

I don't know about smaller but they do seem to look more similar. The 716 did and now the 718 even more it seems. Again, seems like too many models that are too close

I think that with the current lineup, Titleist is doing a really good job of offering something from a true muscle back to a game improvement iron. As you go from the MB to the AP1, each iron has a bit more offset and weighting to make the club more forgiving. I think that the AP3 will be a very good iron for them, and perhaps will be accepted by AP2 players who want more help in the long iron(s). I am reminded that Zach Johnson played an AP1 4-iron with his AP2's, and continues to play that club with his PXG's. An AP3 will provide some of the forgiveness of an AP1, but in a sleeker package.

I've played CBs for four years now and love them, but this makes me love them less:

"The 718 CB, however, is a much different club. In its previous iteration, the tungsten in the 3- through 7-irons was covered by a stainless-steel cap. Now the tungsten extends out to the edge of the club. This provides more weight and allows for the CG to be moved slightly toward the heel for a little more draw bias on the long and mid irons."

Agreed!

Why, on God's green earth, would you make a players club with a draw bias?!?

I wouldn't worry about the draw bias until we have more information. My guess is that based on feedback from their staff they are moving the bias more towards the hosel, which would be familiar to people who have been playing mb/cb pre-tungsten.

Uh, Mizzy currently has 6 different irons out as well :dntknw:

As others have said, maybe the AP3 will fill a niche, but in it's current state I feel like the AP2s are not that much less forgiving than the AP1s. Perhaps they will shift the AP2s closer to the current CBs (which are pretty darn forgiving for a players club imo), and slide the AP3 in between

Any loft information on the AP3s? I love my AP2s but could be interested in an AP3 4 and 5 iron.

I hope they are a little stronger. I would like a little more distance than the AP2 provides.

The lofts are between the AP1 and AP2. You can always just take another club!

But if you take another club, you can't tell your buddies you just hit a PW 160, it would have to be the 9...

yes i think so, it seem´s so that the blade length of the AP2´s are smaller than the CB and MB.

From left to right: MB, CB AP3, AP2, AP1 and T-MB...

Looking at the heel/toe length, the AP2's are the shortest. Those might be harder to hit then the MB's.

I also love

Justin Thomas said the 718 MB's are "Scary good"

My favorite part of that post by JT was how he said the transition into the new MB's was flawless... I would hope a pro had no issue hitting a rebadged version of essentially what has been the same club since the 690 series. Not a knock on JT, more just the fact that blades are blades are blades, until someone tells how much better mizunos are of course...

In all seriousness the new 718 MB's look about as good as Titleist has made, I have no interest (or enough time to practice) to game them but giving them credit where credit is due
