Do TOUR pros hit a sweet spot amateurs never see?

So yes if you are talking chuckle head AMs like that ...sure. But the wear spots on my irons say I hit it more than 1out of 200 swings. Its all subjective. Never good to paint with a big brush.

I'm going to raise the BS flag here.

You're a wrx member, everyone knows we don't keep clubs long enough to see wear marks. :busted2:

I can post pics. But heads will implode.

Photoshopped fake golf.

..believe me.

Even I, a mediocre golfer, hit the absolute middle multiple times a round. Yesterday was a really really good ball striking round for me and probably 1/3 of my iron shots were what I would consider "perfect strike" (note that doesn't mean perfect distance or direction). The thing is, my mis-hits were not all that far off from the perfect strikes when they did go straight. The pros are just so consistent compared to AMs, and that's the real difference. 1mm left or right of center isn't going to do squat to the ball flight, at that point its all about swing path, face angle, AOA, etc.

Theres no magical sweet spot within the sweet spot - certainly not with most modern clubs.

They just hit it nearly every time. The incredible flight of the ball they get is due to nothing except practice.

Not talking about it, theorizing about it, reading about it... just doing it. Over and over.

Practice and sticking to the same technique is the only path to good golf. There is no substitute for repitition. It takes about 2,500 repititions of an action involving small motor skills before you even begin to have any chance of doing it consistently and fluently. The golf swing is a very complex and unnatural action that has many moving parts and requires high level small motor skills. There is a reason so many top players are also renowned hard workers. Anyone who thinks it is just down to talent need only look at the top guys over the years like Seve, Faldo, Norman and Tiger. All huge talents but also the hardest workers. In recent memory only Faldo and Tiger have been able to rebuild their swing and still be competitive. That is partly due to the amount of repititions it takes to build a golf swing. Most ams would improve their game if they stuck to one method and practiced, instead of jumping from one swing to another looking for the 'secret'.

Tour players miss the sweet spot, like amateurs, only not as often. When they do miss they get up and down. Most amateurs don't know how to find the sweet spot, much less, regularly get up and down. :beach: Good amateurs (there are many that are really good) know when they find the sweet spot. That isn't why most better amateurs are not + though. I'd say brain farts leads the way, least that's true in my case.

Of course, like most of his answers or comments over the years, his actual statement was much more wordy and made very little sense.

Interesting. You and Fred Couples have something in common. :taunt:

You can throw me in this little group however Ferg's and I aren't dicks, Fred is?

Have a great week My Friend ?

My best friend's daughter is 19 and plays on the LPGA Tour. On all her irons/wedges there is a tiny circle right on the sweet spot. A few weeks ago I told her she was wasting all that space on the rest of the irons. I find that the ability to hit one spot over and over with a golf swing to be simply amazing.

It's actually more than, by a long shot, to play on Tour. The higher level you achieve , the more the mind gets involved. I had the skill to be really good, my brain did not!.....

I agree that a lot more goes into it than just being able to strike the ball solidly.

Golf is a simple game to understand: get the ball in the hole with as fewest shots as possible, but infinitely complex in how one goes about doing that. :-)
