So I book a single tee time at a pretty nice course, River Falls Plantation in Duncan SC for my 56th birthday (6-10-61) it's a Gary Player course, never played it before. So the starter hooks me up with a couple and a single, we do the niceties, theres Mike and Brenda, really nice people, she's a pretty darn good golfer and Nathan, nice guy pretty good golfer. Third hole in Nathan says; Hey is that an old Titleist putter? I'm like damn you know your stuff(my new investment 80's Tour Model Flange Classic in mint condition to go with my 79/80 Full factory set irons and woods. Yada yada yada, six holes in I get to the question what kind of work does everyone do. Mike and Brenda are semi retired Nathan's doing some marketing gig but also found out he was a pro at Pinehearst some years ago. I'm like DAM! Everyone was really nice and I had a great birthday.

Excellent. It's always a crapshoot going out as a single, and to have the golf gods smile on you on your birthday is a thing of joy.

I was at Pebble Beach last month on business and they offered me a chance to fill out a group the next morning. I hired the caddie they recommended and there we were on the first tee box, paired with two Millennials who opted to not hire a caddie.

 

Jere, my caddie, was a retired surgical implant guy who traded being in operating rooms showing surgeons techniques for the views of Pebble Beach.

 

I invited the young guys to tee off first as I pulled out the 3-wood in my avatar. The first hole is a short dogleg right and you don't need driver, unless you can slice the heck out of it.

 

Millennial #1 looks over to my caddie and asks, "How far is it to go through the fairway?"

 

Jere looks at him, looks at the starter, looks at me. The starter looks at Jere, looks at me and looks at Millennial #1.

 

They were uncomfortable about it all, so I said that maybe we should settle this situation right away.

 

I looked at Millennial #1 and said, "It's $90 plus gratuity."
