That is what we figured since they were so packed in!!!! It was cool to see that out in the panhandle. I love driving off the beaten path.

Got up very early today while my wife slept in and played Hideout Golf Club today. No real need for your driver here. There are 6-7 really tough holes (esp 12 and 13) and losing a ball is quite easy here. I played in 2 hrs (kinda rushed it) and shot a 95. Fairly happy with that considering I lost 5 balls. Elk were all over the course and the greens were pretty quick as well. This course would be significantly easier after playing it 4-5 times. You will still be punished though. It was $42 w cart, cheap. Worth playing here if passing through. I am expecting more from Moab later on today.

Climbed up to Wilson's Arch on the way to Moab this morning.

 

This afternoon we played Moab GC. It was 101 degrees for our entire round. I'll be honest, I was a bit disappointed with Moab GC. Without the cool looking rock formations, this course isn't even average. It's actually quite boring except 2-3 holes. Small greens, just too many uninteresting holes. It photographs better than it really is if you take the pictures in the right spots (from behind the greens). It also cost more than Hideout and the same as Paako Ridge. MAYBE worth playing if you are driving through Moab, but not a destination course at all. Sand traps were like hitting off concrete. Here are a few pics:

Today's round was at Redlands Mesa Golf Club, which out of close to 500 different courses played, it's in my top 3! Awesome golf course. $70 with cart on a Sunday morning and worth each and every penny!

Sorry you didnt like moab. But we all like what we like, lol...I really enjoyed it... redlands looks awesome... I like elevation changes, but I also prefer to see the course in front of me, if that makes sense...at moab I think I used my 16 deg driver the entire round... this is a great read, and we all look fwd to how the rounds go!

So while the wife took a nap, I went out and played 9 more bonus holes at a local course, Cedaredge GC. Played the back 9, quirky holes, crazy views and quick greens. Here are a few pics.

On the way back, I stopped to check out a group of 8 Mule Deer bucks that were right next to the road. Pretty cool.

We didn't care much for Moab either. Love Redlands and Devil's Thumb, Wildhorse in Gothenburg is also on my top 10 list.

Tomorrow I will play Devil's Thumb GC and then (don't tell the wife) Battlement Mesa as well. I switched up Denver, so I will be playing Rifle Creek on the way to Denver. I was hoping to play Fossil Trace, but they are not wanting to let a single make a tee time. They may not get my money. Sick of courses complaining about money when they turn singles away. Some locals told me to go to Montrose and play the Bridges GC, but I won't be going that far South.

If you can make it work you should check out Lakota Canyon in New Castle after Rifle Creek. Same architect as Redlands and some pretty fun holes. The course conditioning leaves a little to be desired but I like to play it a few times each season.

It's OK, I was going through there anyway, so it was worth playing for that reason alone. Hideout was better.

Skipping Denver isn't a bad thing, too many people for me. Most photogenic course would be Arrowhead, golf is just OK. Fossil Trace is also designed by Jim Engh who did Redlands and Lakota. I like Lakota, 2 totally different 9's, first is mountain course, second more residential but houses are never in play. I'd skip Rifle to play Lakota, hope their club house is finally done.

It's still not done - the building had been seemingly done for a while but nothing inside and I haven't seen work being done when I've been up there this season.

I may just show up after 3pm tomorrow to play Fossil Trace, hopefully it won't be full. Murphy Creek or Common Ground are options as well.

 

I'll probably play Rifle Creek as I dont think that is a place that I will get back to. Stayed at an awesome motel in Cedaredge, Colorado. Cedaredge Lodge. Highly recommend it. It's about 15 miles from Delta.

I just scratched Cheyenne, WY OFF my trip for lack of good courses. We'll play in, or around Denver instead. The more I thought about it, the more I came to realize that the quality of the courses are just not worth the extra driving required.

Probably a good choice. Buddy just played there and said conditions are still iffy due to a pretty nasty hail storm they had earlier
