Watching European VS American Tours on TV

Is it just me but lately i prefer to watch the European tour on TV.

I think it maybe the TV coverage and commentating.

Also the courses are more interesting and the penalty for a bad shot really means something.

When is the last time you saw a player lose a ball on the PGA. Water doesn't count.

Its not just bomb and lob. You see pitch and runs, lobs, 50 yard putts and anything in between.

The variety players (bombers and finesse), shot selection, and strategy make it more interesting golf IMO.

Typically, there are bigger named players or more big names playing the US events so from that point of view, it should be a win when it comes to watching PGA Tour coverage but the only time I find the PGA Tour coverage good is when Sky Sports are out there and have their guys in the commentary booth. The rest of the time, it can be a hard watch and not flow with the broadcast. That is definitely not helped with the stupid half hour where there is little or no golf because they need to switch from the Golf Channel to NBC or whatever it is that is covering it. How can it take half an hour to switch between broadcasters in 2017?!

I love the current British swing and all the classic links courses, and also when they play in Asia you get some interesting courses. Also prefer the Euro commentators as they don't take themselves or the action too seriously, unlike the US commentators who are all basically narcissists.

Agreed. This 3 week stretch in the UK/Ireland, plus the 3 week stretch we get down in your neck of the woods near Christmas, are the only times of the year I'd watch golf on TV for 3 straight weeks. Otherwise it's just a couple big tournies and some LPGA stuff.

When you shift from a non-PGA event to a PGA event the difference in broadcast teams is quite stark. There isn't a US-based PGA broadcast team that isn't pish.

I prefer the Euro tour coverage. I've been watching it for several years when its on TGC. I've also wondered why I like it as much as the PGA tour. I think it is the 'on course' commentators. On the PGA tour they give you so much info that it buries the golf. I don't care what direction the wind is coming from, I don't care how hard the commentator thinks the shot is. Most times, I don't care what club the guy is hitting and I don't need a slow motion lesson. Yes, the slow mo stuff is cool, but just let us watch it. No need to tell me how the player 'posted up' on his front leg or is 'using the ground' to hit the ball.

Euro tour does it right, having most of the comments coming from the booth and no one following the groups.

I prefer the Euro Tour coverage. Much more variety of courses, entertaining commentary teams, graphical enhancements and lack of fluff pieces. It is also far superior in terms of the crazy idea of actually showing golf shots during the broadcast of a golf tournament. I would love to count how many more times they cut to leader board during the PGA broadcasts as opposed to the Euro Tour, especially during Thursday and Friday. The Euro Tour broadcast also shows more players during their broadcasts of the first two rounds.

The most underrated thing about the Euro Tour broadcasts, and this is because of time zones, is that its on in the morning. Who doesn't like waking up and being able to watch live golf. It's great to have on on a Thursday or Friday morning while getting ready for work or working at home or while having coffee before heading to the course on a weekend morning.

Always preferred the euro coverage. Better announcers , better jokes less PC junk and more golf.

I prefer the PGA Tour. And the variety of players and courses is at least as great as on the Euro Tour.

Why would you want to see a player lose a ball?

The PGA Tour is nowhere near "bomb and lob". Here are some 2017 PGA Tour winners who are not bombers;

Spieth (twice)

Gribble

Pampling

Perez

Hughes

Hadwin

Bryan

Harman

Kim

etc.

You can't have a wider variety of interesting courses than the PGA Tour. Consider the huge differences between Augusta, Colonial, Erin Hills, Sawgrass, Harbour Town, TPC Scottsdale, etc.
