Putter Collections- Show off your Flatsticks!

Thought this might be fun and could not find much with a search. Thought it might be fun to show off putter collections for those of us who collect. In this thread we could show what/if/how we display our putters and give those off us who like the putter porn our undivided attention.

My collection started a few years ago with an Odyssey #2 CS I bought off someone for $30. I had always preferred a flow neck with my putters but found no consistency. The #2 started draining putts for me and actually started this evil sickness of putter collecting. Being a lefty there aren't many CS putters out there and especially the wide body I prefer at address. I started sketching out putter ideas and had some great makers build me some putters over the past few years. I only collect left handed wide body CS putters (my preference is at exactly 1.5" wide) that were handmade or custom built for me because of my pickiness in shape, weight, width. Recently, I have really started to like the Notchback look. This is probably a pretty unique collection I would say. Unfortunately, I don't have a cool display rack to put them in, but they are currently squeezed into an Adams staff bag. If you look at my sig you can see the sticks I have and I photographed them in order of how I bought them over the past few years. I'm sure there are some WRXers out there that have boat loads more putters I'm looking forward to seeing.

I rotate my putters so they all get gamed but 1. 1 still hasn't seen the grass and I'll probably keep it that way.

I apologize for the sideways and low quality pics

Nice collections, but an impossible task for me, as I have hundreds of putters - probably 50 or more played on Tour.

Moot point anyway as it's too difficult to resize all my photos to post here with the restricted size requirement.

Awesome collection......I hope to have a collection like this someday. Have 2 customs currently done by Lump. Hope to add more to it as I sold my others because they weren't "built for me".

So.....which putter is the one that will never be gamed?

4th from the left..it was my 2nd Xenon and I sketched it out and had Lump make it. I'm too scared to use it! I have closer pics of that putter somewhere in this forum

I've been slowly amassing a collection for the past 2+ years. The journey began with the Machine that's found on the far left side. I thought this putter would be my one and only. Then came flanges and a shaft. Then came Lump and Lamont. Now I'm starting to search for putters I want at reasonable prices. I don't know that I'll ever stop collecting, as I have a few ideas cooked up, but I'm going to be selective moving forward. An ALBZ Machine is in transit as I type this message. Thankfully my wife supports/tolerates my passions.

I've really enjoyed the custom process with each of the aforementioned builders, but have enjoyed purchasing from WRXers and PT members just as much. One of my favourite putters (the Xenon with the brass bar inserts in the flange) came from Johnny shortly before his passing and a few Xenon's are from Bob (one of the nicest men I've had the pleasure of dealing with). Every putter spends time in my bag throughout the season (some more than others) and most are built to nearly identical specs so I don't seem to notice a dramatic change in scoring from one round to the next. My favourite material is brass (I blame Bob) but love the 'maintenance free' nature of stainless. Each putter is unique, has a story, and will hopefully be carried by my Peanut children someday.

I've displayed my favourite head covers. I'm quite fond of Delila's work and cherish the two 'PD Canadian Specials' she assembled. Lamont's Sugar Skulls are really cool and I'm fond of all that Lump creates (still searching for a hot rod cover). Recently purchased the Tad cover featured to complete the Tad that I had refinished and was so pleased to go back and forth in a few emails with the legend himself.

I recently had a 20 year old cousin, who is in a first year college carpentry program, build the putter rack and head cover racks pictured. I was so impressed with the job that he did. Unfortunately a three and seven year old have confined my collection to a pantry space that's a bit wider than a closet. Maybe someday I'll reclaim my space and build the golf cave that I've always wanted.

Cheers to all who populate these forums. I've enjoyed following your putter builds and have drawn inspiration from many of your contributions over the years. So many good people involved in this niche market.

Mike.

PS - I'm so sorry the photographs are sideways. I have no idea how to rotate them. I collect putters better than I catalog them in the digital world.

Nice pics and collection! Need to know where you got that putter rack!

Just re-read your post. The rack is top notch, great display piece. You've got some nice sticks in that pantry

Only time my wife has ever commented on my 'nice rack' : )

Quite the experience seeing this rack from start to finish as the cousin had never built a putter rack and had never held a putter and head cover. We found a basic schematic online, selected the wood and stain, and he began the process. He sent me a progress picture at the midway point and I immediately discovered a problem in the design (my grips were to big for the slots he had cut and he didn't have a toe plate) but he was able to alter. The two head cover racks were his idea. They are the same width as the putter rack so I can stack them on a wall and add future racks if I choose. There's enough space on the rack to include ten blade/mid mallet putters (1/2 with head covers on) so it's plenty big. I've started to fill a bag like you have as well so I don't know where I'm heading : )

Thank you for the kind words Rob. Given your comments in other threads I'm sure these photos only scratch the surface. I'd love to see a picture(s) of the 5 favourite putters you've carried to the course. Also, how does one go about storing such a large collection? Part of the reason I had a rack made was to bring order to the growing collection.

Cheers,

Mike

What is the putter in your top pic to the left of the white shafted Xenon? Headcover looks like a Tad Moore? Got any more pics?

A mistake that turned out to be an exceptional find. It's a sleeper in that group.

I purchased the putter (A Black Diamond) thinking that I had found an early Tyson Lamb at a great price. Then discovered moments after I had committed that the putter was actually an Alpha Black Diamond. The head is a wide body 'JAM style' shape with a flow neck. Milled from a single of soft carbon steel. Minimal markings. I had Continental install a matte black shaft and I threw on a black stitch back for a stealth-like appearance. She's a flat out performer if you can find one.

Just had specs checked and she arrived at 350 grams, 69* lie angle and 3* loft. Exactly where I wanted the head to be.

I switch between a Machine M20 converter with beefy back flange and a Scotty X5R with a welded flowneck by Tom Slighter.

I love that wide JAM style shape that's why I asked about it

Big fan of both models. I've struggled to be consistent with blade/Anser designs but love the look of them. A #7 shape performs best in my hands.

As to the JAM, I didn't even know that name until you had informed me in another thread. Funny how things blend together from thread to thread.

PD, followed with interest your acquisitions as they have evolved over the last year or so. Was going to ask you for a pic of the collection. TFP up one, complete with headcovers. Very nice. What I've admired following along, you seem to have some purpose to your acquisitions. I don't really have a collection per se, more of a assemblage of ones gathered here and there, often on the cheap. Old Pings, Bullseyes, various 8802 styles primarily. Nothing that comes close to what has been shown ITW. With that said, it does bring some degree of pleasure messing around with old putters and various styles.

Like you, seemingly putt best with a #7 style. At least whenever I've rolled one at the LGS and the one bud that has one. But the shape, really hard to get past the look. Preferring a blade of late, trending away from mallets (#5). Not that I've been putting appreciatively better with one, while I was still playing with regularity. Have a growing affinity towards a "Dalehead" Anser shape, ideally one with a flow neck.

The Alpha BD putter is a stunner. Really like the looks of that one, the weight is perfect, the simplicity, the subdued sightline. Ticks a lot of boxes. And a quick search of the net shows they are virtually nonexistent. Nice score on that one.

For educational purposes (and not wanting to root around trying to find the info), what is meant by a 'JAM style' shape?

Always enjoy reading about what your up to with your clubs. BTW, stellar rack the cuz built for you. First class for storage and display.

JAM is the Bettinardi model name for that headshape (they have normal JAM's, widebody JAM's [similar to the older studio stock 9] there is even a JAM mallet). Similar to this:

Thank you for the kind words Fella. I too enjoy your contributions to the Forums.

I admire a collection that's been put together with thought. I know how special it is to find 'the one' you've been searching for.

pkshooter, bazinoz, and Lefty have all found styles of putters that fit their strokes and appeal to their eyes. I think there's something to be said for consistency in head shape and specs if you are going to swap putters and post similar results.

bazinoz, I love the appearance of a true blade putter design. A member was generous enough to send me the Yonex putter that you have pictured. A handsome head that felt exceptional on a well struck ball. Ultimately the putter was too light and my mechanics too wonky to do the head justice. I gave the putter to my instructor and he returned a set of Hogan '88 Redlines in great shape. I also really like the appearance of the Macgregor that you have on the far left of the photograph. I confess to searching these head shapes on eBay frequently. Someday I will own a Macgregor Iron Master as I'd like to complete an all Mac bag.

Etiger83, thank you for the JAM explanation. Didn't know they came in a mallet (will head to check one out) : )

Cheers PD.

These putters fit my eye probably more than my stroke. I simply luuurve the look of these naked blades. Only 2 of my collection even have a dot. I prefer them with nothing on....

As for my stroke. I always thought I was SBST kind of person. I have always previously used Anser styles (and a couple of mallets over the years). A Betti BB1 being my mainstay for quite a while.

But I had a 2 hour coaching lesson earlier this year and part of that was checking my putting stroke and strike on a laser thingy. Surprise to me was that my stroke is actually inside to straight (not straight to straight or in to straight to in).

Then a few months ago I picked up a used set of Ping Eye 2's (my other passion and collection) that came with an old beaten up Old Master W802. And that's when my 8802 love began. I had a round with the W802 (just for a crack) and it blew me away. So much more consistency than I previously had and when I'm putting well it now seems so much more flowing. The simplicity looking down on these putters seems to make a huge difference to me. A lot of people say the Odyssey PT82 is a great 8802 style. But that line from the face to the back of the flange really puts me off.

I now have 2x Old Masters, the first one I polished and buffed up. It is incredibly beautiful to my eye. It's the golden girl in the middle of the photos. The other one I have left in it's original condition.

And I too love the Yonex Forged Super ADX. Lefty Phil's putter back in the day. And I read somewhere that the MacGregor VIP was used by Jack for a lot of his Major wins. Anyone know is that correct?

Hi LeftyM. Glad you started this thread mate. Already some great collections here. Your's PD's & Rob's would take a lot of beating.

The one I use mainly is the Wilson Staff 8802. It is the more modern version, heavier and milled face.

My favorite is the buffed up Old Master W802 as explained above. I also have a soft spot for "The Wilson" 8802 and the Yonex, although it is a bit glarey in the Australian sun.

The Cobra CNC I am currently refurbishing/refinishing. Got a thread about it in the putter mods forum.
