Recommended Posts

What are the best fairway woods of 2017? It's time for you, the GolfWRX Community, to cast your votes.

In the poll below, please select the three (3) fairway woods you believe are the best-performing models of 2017. Please vote based on your experience testing this year’s new fairway woods. Things to consider include distance, forgiveness, looks and feel. We want to hear about launch angle, spin rate, stability of off-center hits, sound, face angle, adjustability… everything.

Once you’ve voted in the poll, please post why you chose the fairway woods you did in the thread below. Don’t forget to tell us about the differences you saw in your fitting between your old gamer and your new gamer.

A Note From the GolfWRX Staff: We thank you so much for the support you've offered this year to Members Choice, as you've already helped countless golfers find the The Best Drivers of 2017 and The Best Irons of 2017 by sharing your wisdom and experience. There's nowhere even remotely close to me that has the M2 Tour, but my 3HL normal M2 is as close to automatic as I've ever been. Never been able to hit 3 woods, to the point where for the last few seasons, the next club in my bag after driver was a 5 wood that was shortened an inch. The M2 is somehow just as easy to hit, and looooooong.

I've spent years searching for a fairway that I could hit with a consistent shot shape/pattern, and I finally found it in the 917 F2.

I thought the Titleist F3 was the best combination of looks and feel, but they didn't offer a 16.5 version, so I ordered the M2 tour hl. Thought the M2/M2 tour were the best distance wise, with the Epic then the F3 just behind.

I've only hit 3 of them. Epic, M2 and the 917f2. I think this might be the finest ever year for fairways as they all seem to be quality. I could use any of these happily.

This is a fantastical year for fairway woods. I game the Epic SZ 15 degree, set to 14. Easy distance, mid launch and penetrating flight. Easy to hit off the deck and a tee. I can move it left and right, if I need to, but why bother when straight and long is so easy. The Titleist 917's are both very close to the Epic SZ, but not quite as forgiving. They are the best looking of the bunch. The Exotics EX10 Beta is amazingly long and straight and the sole is fantastic out of the rough.

I didn't do nearly as much trialing for my 3W after going up and down the racks picking out my F7+ w/ Hzrdus Yellow shaft. After settling on the driver I said, "That 3W that matches looks pretty slick, let me hit a few with it." and immediately fell in love. Has a nice traditional note at impact and the ball just flies off the face, especially with the weight forward. Probably could've tried a few different shafts but the stock stiff shaft works well enough and was able to find one used-mint on the bay for $150. Unfortunately, this was before the Cobra BOGO promo. Most of the positive shots that stick in my head from this season have come with the 3W, won't be seeking out a replacement for a while.

Hands down, without a doubt, GBB Epic Fairway is the best of this year's crop.

Not only do I think it is the best fairway wood, but it is my favorite club in my bag. I can hit this thing a mile set at 17.5. I can work it both ways. And I can hit it out of some really crappy lies. The small head sits really nice behind the ball. Much more pleasing to the eye than most of these gigantic fairway wood heads. I play mine at 42.5 with a 75 gram hzrdus black in it.

Honorable mention is the M2 Tour. Hit it at a demo day and it was really solid.

I've only hit the M2 Tour and M2 in 15*. For me, I don't really need extra workability out of a 3 wood or the extra $50 charge, so I just went M2. I can still work it when I need to, but that thing is an absolute bomber. Easy to hit off the tee or fairway and as forgiving as I could imagine a 3 wood being. I only drive it around 280 and the other day I hit it off the tee a bit off the toe and it still went 260. Ridiculous distance for a 3 wood. Love the white and carbon look too.

I currently play the Cobra F6 fairway wood. Tried the F7, F6 Baffler and M2 but, they could not convince me to upgrade. It's the easiest 3 wood to hit from the fairway I've ever played and as good off the tee.

I pretty much could copy 'chch3's' comments. @ 17.5 deg I was able able to swap out my 3W for a BB Mini 1.5 and now my bag is really working for me. Probably going to buy a second to stash away...

I have been watching them on ebay to get another one to stash away also. It is going to be a long time before it comes out of my bag.

M2 Tour: best look, sound, feel and performance

M1: awesome look and feel, I just decided to go with a 3HL version and since the M2 Tour spins less, I went with that to counteract the extra loft

JPX900: second best look and feel and best stock shaft of anything out there by far.

I currently game the TM SLDR fairway woods as I've never seen enough improvement from any new woods to make a change. However IF I were to make a change, I would definitely move to the Callaway Epic SZ. They are so forgiving and their flight is exactly what I like, plus they are long. The Cobra Baffler is also a very nice wood, it really does help get the ball out of the grass, I've used it for a bit, and I really liked it, but mentally it just gets to me on tight lies.

I can't seem to hit the TM M1/2 woods, I just can't really hit them straight.

However, if I were buying on strictly "comfort" over the ball, I'm probably game the Titleist, they sit so nicely on the ground and really inspire confidence. To bad confidence doesn't put a better strike on the ball :)
