Kuch didn't lose this tournament. He was just flat out beat. So why are you bagging on him? I think at some point he will win. He just wasn't as hot as J.S. this week.

They both shot 1 under today, Jordan started 3 ahead, I wouldn't say Kuch was flat out beat today. You can't be in the final group, start 3 behind, shoot 1 under and expect to win.

My take is Kuch lost it more than Jordan won it based on today's round....

but Kuchar took the lead and then played the next four holes 2 under par. that's pretty good normally. it's just that he lost three strokes to Spieth in those four holes.

Your reply is DEAD on!

Matt didn't lose. Jordan won. Big difference.

Matt's best today didn't match Jordan's. But he still took second alone, no small feat, and forced Jordan to buckle down in order to prevent another Masters meltdown.

I agree. Spieth won this title and did it with an emphatic comeback. Something he didn't do at the Master's a few years ago. Jordan's legacy is now taking shape.

And as for Kuch, I could name a few Major Champions that might look at Kucher's career with a bit of envy.

Your acronym doubles for win ANOTHER major.

But anyway, I'm sure one of the statisticians here could do a strokes-gained analysis or something (looking back) and determine, statistically, if certain players CAN win majors, and if certain players WILL win majors.

Maybe a mathematical matrix of dispersion patterns, launch stats, meteorology data, putt-make-percentage, double-bogey likelihood, all said stats as function of playing partner's said stats and popularity, body composition, dietary habits on course, etc.

Watson (the computer) calculated (on that commercial) that Tow Watson was like 7 times more likely to win if it was raining. I think Watson could tell us who will never win a major.

There must be some way to objectify it with stats.

Kuchar has the game to contend in majors for the next decade. He hasn't turned 40 yet I don't think.

He played well enough to win today. He was just beaten.

He's 39. Not much time left:

Good player. Reminds me a bit of Cink in that he's made a lot of money but has relatively few wins.

I'm a Stricker fan, and really like Kuchar, as well. NBC ran a stat for most tour titles without a major. Stricker led with 12. Kuchar was fifth.

Let's get the whole "too nice to win a major" thing out of the way. None of us really know what goes on between their ears. People who say that about guys like Stricker, Kuchar, and Fowler are just making it up.

I will say the common trait shared by Kuchar and Stricker is lack of distance compared to the rest of the tour. I do think that is a key issue for both.

,

I'm not all that sure about Stricker, but watching Kuchar yesterday, the drives that both he and Spieth did find the fairway, there was really no big difference between them. Iron shots, as far as the reported club being used (par 3's) was the same and for Kucher, he had the ability to hit a specific shot (soft 6 instead of a hard 7 for example and play his fade), which should be a plus in most peoples books. Yeah, there's a lot of guys on tour that can really air mail it, but both Kucher and Spieth seemingly hit it far enough to be winners. In truth, it all comes down to the short game and putting. If Kucher had made just a couple of those putts that just barely missed, it just might have been a different outcome, but he played great and just got flat out beat by the flat stick.

Best player who will never win a major..

"Mr. Top10" Kuchar...sorry, you are a d*mn good player, but no chance you win a major. You just don't have that killer instinct.

But I hear you are good at tennis...so there's that.

OP, you do realize Kuchar beat out the strongest field in the world in a country he doesn't live in or regularly compete in by 3 shots right? Speith got him by 3 more - that's a testament to the show Speith put on, not Kuchar's lack of "killer instinct", as you call it. Kuchar did not lose this tournament, he played incredibly good golf for 4 days.

I genuinely cannot picture Rickie ever winning one. Great guy, good for the game, but I don't know if he has it. If/when he wins I won't be shocked though

You can't see him winning one? Have you been watching golf at all the last couple of years? He has 6 top 5 major finishes and he's already won The Player's. He's the number 11 ranked player in the world. Why would you be shocked?

Some of you are missing the point. It's simply he doesn't have that killer instinct to close out a major. Butch Harmon practically said it all day today. It doesn't mean he's not nice, he is. It doesn't mean he's not classy, might be the classiest in tour. He's got a ton of game, great putter, etc...But where's that seize the moment gear when you need it most?

Everyone was giving the title to Spieth before the round started. Everyone on TV saying no conceivable scenario Speith loses? Why? Because weather was good, no one expects Spieth to fold, and one sees Kuchar posting 62 (this especially). But Spieth started spraying shots, uncharacteristically missed a couple of short ones, really opened the door but at no time did it look like Kuchar was in control and would seize it.

That's all.

This is ridiculous. If you think Kuchar has been as successful as he has on this tour for as long as he has without a competitive nature, you’re insane. The idea that you are chalking his lack of victories in majors (not lack of success, mind you) to a “killer instinct” is foolish. Even more foolish that the wildly successful major winner Butch Harmon thinks so… wait…

Your right about no one thinking Kuch would shoot a 62. They also didn’t think Jordan would. 62 is low. And to that point, I am sure nobody ever expected Mr. Nice Guy Jim Furyk to shoot a 58, right?

Kuchar has a lot of similarities with Mark O'Meara. Both great putters, excellent grinders who don't have visually spectacular golf games. Don't hit it long, very straight, or flat out stripe irons. Heck, both went from upright to flat swingers after joining the tour.

Mark won his only two majors in '98, at age 42 I believe. If O'Meara can win 2 after 40 in the midst of Tiger mania, Kuch can win one too. He simply puts himself in contention too often not to.

Not a take I've seen or agree with. If you play 4 holes at -2 but lose three shots, I think you have to give the other guy a lot of credit.

18 hole round ge had numerous chances to roll in putts when speith was in trouble even put it in the bunker after speith had missed the green with a 9 or wedge, its fair enough to say that if you start a final round 3 behind and shoot 1 under you havent done near enough to win given the quality of his opponent especially. Cue the hater dbag and stupid comments.
