Shot Scope V2 - GPS Watch with Tracking

Recommended Posts

Seems the guys at Shot Scope have been very busy!

Noticed that they launched Shot Scope V2 this morning, there is a pre-order on their website.

What I can gather it uses the same performance tracking technology and obviously has added GPS distances.

Looks way better than the first product and on pre-order for $210 is a good deal!

Thoughts on this? Does this now set the bar for GPS watches?

Looks great. I think they needed to do this to get more people to pay attention. Now that it serves as a GPS watch, it will vastly increase their potential pool of customers.

It will still use pin collect, and the screen will apparently change to prompt you to enter your # of putts when GPS shows you're on the green.

Also, the top left button (with the '+' sign on it in the photo) will be used to add penalty strokes in-round.

They also revamped their website. Specifically, the page >>> https://shotscope.com/innovation/

Sounds like they have a bunch of enhancements coming up.

BTW - preorder price looks like $250

The innovation page is very cool! Quite nice to see a company show what they are doing.

I had a good read through the website and normal price for the V2 will be $250 and the pre-order price is $250. They are asking for $60 to reserve one and then a confirmation payment of $150 the week before the ship.

I think they have an issue with recognizing where the IP address is from and showing the correct price on the page.

At the bottom of the homepage it shows normal price $250 and pre-order price $210. This is also backed up on the end of their video on the homepage.

Then if you go through to cart, it says the deposit is $60.

I always like to go back and see how many lines go across the greens on awful chips or shots from the fairway that go dead right in the woods with a lovely shank

The V1 system was really good, they are running an upgrade for V1 users so I have jumped on that.

Data wise, it is really interesting, found a few issues with my game that I didn't know about! I do know I can hit it everywhere :). I know they have some upgrades for their performance pages, some snapshots on the website.

Existing users, how accurate is the fairway and bunker detection?

I've used Golfpad and Game Golf.

Golfpad: bit spotty (too generous) with fairway detection (shots clearly are not in the fairway and it gives me a fairway hit - fairway % is too high). You have to enter bunkers manually, which I don't necessarily mind.

Game Golf: fairway detection is pretty accurate, but Game Golf doesn't even have sand/bunker statistics

Will they still sell the original? I kinda like the idea of having just a data machine on he wrist. Like, if I wanted distances I'd use a rangefinder.

I'd venture to guess you're in the minority, not wanting additional features. I think 'not' having the GPS yardage information was a huge inhibitor to sales.

You might double check, but I'd be willing to bet that they'll cease manufacturing the old version and sell their existing

inventory of V1's. Aside from that, I'm sure there will be plenty of used V1's on eBay (existing users can upgrade to V2 for $110 and don't have to return the old ones) for cheap.

I think this has been as accurate as Game Golf, I think the mapping of the course is accurate with regards to boundaries of things but because its consumer grade GPS its still off a few yards here and there with shot detection and will mis-classify things from time to time. They claim the new one is a little better. I still review each round to add penalties and pin positions and I typically have to move shots around every 3-4 holes when doing it typically things like putts being registered off the green or being in the rough off the green versus in a bunker.

I doubt they will sell the old one but they say they'll have a competition mode that wont display yardages.

I've been looking at either this or Game Golf.

Hopefully they'll have a tournament mode, as I'd like to be able to use it during tournaments. At least with Game Golf you can track during the round and upload after, where as with this, if you can't disable the yardages, I'd imagine you can't track.

Does anyone know what kind of stats this device will give?

I'm leaning towards this, but also like Game Golf, but it's probably going to come down to what device gives me more statistics about the round.

I have just pre-ordered one. I was looking at the sky caddie Linx with tags but the putting element didn't seem as good.

One of my friends knows a guy that works for them and has seen unit and he says it looks good so I decided to go for it. I was interested in v1, but without the yardages iit didn't make any sense.....I would have had to wear two watches, so a bit silly!

Think it will suit golfers at all levels as any data has got to be an advantage...what you choose to do with it is another matter!!!

They have 3 modes, so it will be tournament legal. Send their support an email and I am sure they will update you.

Regarding stats, it does everything. I think they have a demo but also on their innovation page they show some of their updated stuff which looks really cool.

  • 2 weeks later...

Im probably going to ditch Arccos for Shot Scope as I have not been all that impressed with Arccos.

Any particular reason why you don't like Arccos? Shot scope looks like a great product but I'm not keen on the bulky gps watch, especially when I already have an Apple watch.

The sensors in the clubs are pretty big but thats not a huge deal. They do keep coming unscrewed though which is annoying. Ive found the putting stats to be pretty bad and not all that accurate. I like how with this one you can tag the watch to tell it where the hole was located for better stat keeping on the greens. Also, keeping the phone on your pocket kind of sucks with Arccos. You get used to it but Id rather not have to do that. Not sure I love the watch idea either but I'm willing to try it.

I would much rather deal with the watch then my phone in my pocket. I played with a GPS watch a few years ago and figure this SSV2 watch is probably no bigger than that. As Kmac said my tags are always coming loose. Lost the PW one a few months back.
