Shorts at the PGA Championship

They finally did it....they're wearing shorts at the PGA Championship during ALL the practice rounds. I, for one, am not a fan of it any more than I'd like seeing my banker, my lawyer, or my doctor wearing shorts at work. It's just not professional IMHO and I think golf, especially Major Championship golf, deserves a little more respect. What says the rest of this forum?

The shorts are only allowed for practice rounds. Not a big deal on any level.

I think it's great. It's 2017. I don't pay these guys for their expertise like I pay a lawyer, banker or any other profession where I'd expect them in suit.

I like to think that golfers are athletes, and I also think it's just fine that they wear athletic type clothing while they are playing.

If I had a vote I would say no during pro events, especially majors. But I wouldn't be offended. To me why not wear them during the made for TV silly season events, but not during regular tour events.

Some think that it's no big deal and others think it's a really big deal. I didn't think it was a big deal showing up in court in shorts when I was a young man but the judge sure did.

Cool. Shorty shorts and knee high compression socks. Can't wait to see what Nike comes up with for Day-Z.

Just kidding guys.

Have a good week

You see the players who respect the game the most Dustin Johnson, Byeong Hun An and Rory Mcilroy wear pants where as the players with no respect for the game Jordan Spieth (slow play), Phil Mickelson (skipping majors), Kevin Kisner (excessive drinking), and Jon Rahm (club tossing) wear shorts. I applaud the PGA of America by doing this to see who really respects the game.

Have you read the replies to this point? So far only you think it's a big deal. And trying to equate showing up in court in shorts to a practice round of golf is a huge stretch even by WRX standards. One of these things is not like the other.

No respect for the game? Seriously? Practice round?

My vote for the most delusional post since Ferguson went bye bye. Fergie is that you?

So, I'm not entitled to an opinion? Since when did a WRX consensus make something right or wrong? Some people like tradition in a traditional game. It's a matter of taste, not right or wrong. Sorry that offends you.. I didn't try to equate the two situations. I was referring to different opinions on matters. I guess you can't comprehend that either.

I agree. For the last 40 years I've been pissed off that these guys think it's ok to wear short sleeves. They should be in long sleeves, a tie and a jacket. And now many of them wear shoes that look like sneakers. Looks terrible.

Of course you can have an opinion but did you actually read what you posted? You said "Some think that it's no big deal and others think it's a really big deal." That statement by you is regarding wearing shorts which is what this thread is about. Not another subject. Again only YOU think it's a big deal. I'm using your words. I'm sorry you can't actually comprehend what you actually posted here.

You must be outraged they no longer wear jackets, ties and plus 4's.

Times they are a changin my friend. An athlete wearing shorts during an outdoor competition when temps are 80+ is far more normal and professional than wearing pants.

Ridonkulous that people equate golfers wearing pants as a barometer for professionalism or respect. Simply idiotic thinking.

I don't think I've ever played a round of golf at any level when it was above or even supposed to be above 60 degrees out in anything other than shorts. I prefer to cut my own off from Levi's, the straight legged type. If it's for sure going to be above 70 I prefer a tank top. I get enough tan lines out there. If I didn't think it would be taboo I'd no doubt just go shirtless.

Kidding, kidding. I haven't worn a pair of jeans anywhere in over 20 years. I don't even own a pair, I have nothing against them just don't like them for me. Too restrictive. Once you get used to slacks and khakis, jeans suck to wear. I do wear shorts golfing but they're always nice khaki types and you'll never catch me not wearing a polo type shirt (tucked in) while playing. Some of the courses I play don't enforce any sort of dress code (I'm totally ok here too) and I've met some damn good golfers that play in jorts and wife beaters around here. Usually they're only good for nine holes since they're swilling beer like it's water and they've been wondering around the Sahara for a month, but damn fine for the first nine (beers) holes. This last point is only mostly kidding. From my experience those wearing this attire are more likely to replace oxygen with alcohol in their blood, but golf means different things to different people. So long as they're not messing with my enjoyment of the game, if that's their idea of enjoying a day on the course, it don't bother me. It's their liver after all.
