Jason Day's Body & Game

Lol atrocious thread. The level of misinformation about lifting and diet is hilarious. You cannot add size without increased calories. It is impossible.

When legends of old lost their game it was night life, booze, divorces, lost love of the game, lost swings, lost nerves...

But now we gotta blame weights lol. Cause simply slumping isn't a good enough reason!

I'm convinced most of wrx hasn't played competitive sports lol. No one on tour is even at the lowest physique model levels of muscle. Love it how the obese guys get a pass over fitness guys now too. A guy like Shawn stefani just screams athlete, solid all over but proportionate. He doesn't get any screen time so he's not discussed.

Day was actually bigger before the fame. It's just leaner and slim fit shirts. He does walk upright because he's probably had disc damage from the level of wear and tear his restricted power swing takes. If you have a bad back you walk in a funky way. Surprise!

and here is that post.....

what response did you expect to calling out "most of wrx" and throwing "obese" around....

I wasn't calling out obese guys on WRX lol, I was saying the obese tour pros dont catch the same negative discussion on boards. Seems bigger guys and some with really bad health habits get a pass. The criticism should go both ways, if at all.

And yes when many posters did view Rory and Day as bulked up, it is an alarming view and does warrant whatever I said. I really dont think I crossed any lines. I made fair and valid points.

I was expecting the typical irrelevant retorts lol. My points remain the same - nothing groundbreaking. Rory and Day aren't big. Their game didn't go south due to lifting. More calories + lifting = size.

I won't continue the argument further. These discussions are hopeless on here.

I think saying they are playing worse because of weights is bogus. Is there a stereotypical body stature that goes along with golf? Sure. But if you look at the list of winners every week from any tournament and any level. The body types change. I just think everyone needs something to blame something on... From my experience especially when lifting and golfing what needs to be emphasized is stretching and staying flexible. If you can do that while building muscle all that happens is you get stronger and more stable. Just my 2 cents

I for one dont like it but when you disagree with an athlete becoming more fit, its almost uncalled for. I think that the fascination with fitness might be overkill but I dont know how much time they spend in the gym. I know several of my friends who are crossfitters and no knock on them but when you dedicate your everyday life it seems to that one thing, everything else seems to drop off, and yes everything seems to drop off. Im hoping for one that Jason and Rory focus on their game and play more versus feeling like they need to have painted on shirts. Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt mind dropping some pounds and packing more muscle on but for me, if it doesnt benefit me for my goal i.e. preparing for a marathon, iron man or what not, I would just focus on golf. I think that is why Jordan Speith is actually find more success then they are at the moment. He seems to just focus on golf.

Anyone think the reason for the decline in his game maybe due to his obsession with weights? I watched Rick Shiel's interview with he and Rory the other day and listened to him talk about how much he enjoys lifting, and now I'm watching him at Firestone on PGA Tour Live and he's walking around with his chest puffed out doing his best impression of a body builder.

Just a hunch. I'm not necessarily convinced that it is but I think it's worth considering. I look at DJ who is also known for his athleticism and fitness regimine, but in looking at his physique you can tell that his philosophy and approach is a little different and perhaps more suited towards golf.

Go watch his barefoot shot from the 3rd round of the 2014 PGA Championship. The commentators couldn't get over how "built" he was in the lower body. Wait...2014 you say? That's before he went on his hot run.

The guy's clothes are being tailored tighter to fit his physique. He had a similar look in late 2015 and 2016 with Adidas when he was playing well, but the Nike stuff is even more slim fitting. Much ado about nothing here.

He was squatting heavy had the quads popping....

He quit that and went to band work from what I remember....TollBros is right and others in saying their size is not what it seems. Now EE, he was/is formidable when you see him.
