looking at replacing my s6 with one. I cant stand the s6's battery. For 1 course in a day its great, but on a golf trip it will die in 27-30 holes. This seems to have much better battery life and looks much higher quality.

It is big. Goes well over 14 hours with GPS running and a full battery. I have the 3 and have no issues. My buddy has a Fenix 5, picked it up a couple weeks ago and so far likes it. Much thicker than a golf specific watch.

Don't get me wrong, it looks like a nice device and that battery life is certainly great - but for me (everyone is different), If it doesn't have all the courses preloaded and I'd have to manually load each course, I'd would rather buy two of the less expensive watches (like the s20) instead.

I would consider that as well. The Fenix 5 would be down the list of devices I would recommend for golf.

If you run, ride or swim and do other activities as well as golf, it's a great all in one.

I use my fenix 3 for golf because I already own it and don't see a reason to buy another watch. It also counts and logs my steps that I'm required to achieve each month for health insurance.

It's big, relatively heavy but took me half a round to get used to wearing it.

If you're going to spend that much money on something that can do both golf and running, take a look at the 935 instead of the Fenix 3 or 5. The 935 is far lighter, the screen is a little better than even the Fenix 5, it's $100 less, and it performs better as a running watch than the Fenix 3/5 with the golf course performance being equal if not better on the 935 due to better GPS performance.

bought a fenix 5.

5s is to small and the 5x is way to large and tall.

Quality is top notch with the sapphire glass and extra metal band.

Functions great as a basic golf watch. missing features from my s6 like the entire hole map. It really shines as a fitness watch. The data it gets is amazing and extremely useful for me.

My biggest issue is it doesn't always like to load up a second course right away if you play 36 holes. Had to reboot my phone and watch to solve the issue.

Hi,

Considering Fenix 5 as well but from the videos or manual I cannot understand if/how it tracks detailed statistics of the game.

I do understand the Autoshot, but can you track also manually ?

So like scenario that I:

1. hit the drive, I manually select the club I hit it with

2. I walk to the ball, it tracks the distance and I can manually select whether I hit fairway, missed left or right

3. I hit another shot, select the club, walk to the ball, …

4. I putt,

5. finally, I select score and & number of puts

Is that possible on Fenix 5 ?

Thanks

Martin

No, just the initial course acquisition to the watch.

I thought the GPS on the Fenix 5 was the best in the range?

One would think but it isn't. Many people who count on GPS tracks for running etc ditched the 5X in favor of the 935. Wrist based GSP in a watch isn't a perfect science so "accuracy" is a somewhat loosely interpreted, but the 935 is much closer to accurate than the 5X.

I have the Fenix 5 that I have used for the last year for biking, skiing and running and have loved it. I was worried that it would be too big for golf, but took it out to the range last week and it felt fine. I have never folded with a watch on before, but do not think it will bother me.

Should get a round in the next few weeks if the snow ever leaves and will see how it goes for a full round.

I love mine. I wear it everyday with the metal band and switch to the soft band for golf and exercise.

Compared to the s6 I had its

-Way better battery life. I can get around 5 full rounds in on a charge.

-Screen is nicer to look at

-show exact same yardages

-much better build quality

Its really only lacking hole overview and pin placement options. I never cared for them on the s6 so nothing lost for me.

Does the Fenix 5 give distance to hazard and distance to carry hazard like the s20?

Viewing Hazards

You can view distances to hazards along the fairway for par 4 and 5 holes. Hazards that affect shot selection are displayed individually or in groups to help you determine the distance to layup or carry.

I realize this thread is old but thought it merited a current post. After all the years buying new Skycaddies and subscriptions, it was time to say goodbye to old technology. I sold Skycaddie and bought a Garmin Fenix 5X and really happy I did.

Truly, I have been amazed at the watches many uses; not to mention, 40k pre-installed courses, golf yardage GPS accuracy and added shot details, like Hazard location/distance to cover, yardage to Pin, FIR, and putts, and keeping score, etc. I thought it would bother me wearing a watch while playing but that's not the case. Push a button I get the weather, outside temp, altitude, storm notice, HR, Steps, email notification, and Calendar & Task reminders, plus other pieces of info and activity tracking. When I get a call, I am notified who's calling and can accept or reject it on the watch, even told a text arrived from so & so, etc. If I need to see a scorecard, I look at Garmin's companion golf app on my phone, as the phone and watch regularly sync data through Bluetooth. The app has many functions too. Fenix 5X even has N.A. map functions, N.A. cycling, and hiking trails and coastal marine maps which I use. Astonished doesn't cover its technology and flexibility. It's more expensive than a new Skycaddie but NO annual subscription or possibility of leaving it somewhere. It surpasses the functions on Apple Smart Watch and Fenix has all the golf functionality.

> Why not just get the S60? Very similar and its actually a golf specific watch. I wear mine every round and sometimes I think it might be a better smart watch than my Apple Watch which I wear every day.

Yes, it's a golf-specific watch, costs less and accurate too. Like you, two of my friends have S60 and the Apple watch. The combined cost of the two watches equals Fenix 5X.

The S60 and Apple Watch, together, are still too limited in functionality, for my lifestyle. I wear the Fenix 5X 24/7. It not only carries the same 40k golf courses, yardages, and golf details but has hundreds of free or minor cost apps. Some I use daily and weekly for outdoor road cycling, weather tracking, strength training including reps, elliptical app, cardio and cadence for indoor cycling, inland and ocean marine navigating app, heart rate monitoring, sleep, and stress monitoring apps. Also, it carries a charge that lasts two-three weeks with no golf GPS, or one plus week with two rounds of golf and has detailed GPS navigation maps for North America with a slew of other available worldwide maps. Also, I have an app to control our garage door and door locks, plus more memory than most laptops. And I didn't even touch on all that is capable of 5X. Yep, IMO, it's better than Apple watch.
