Need a traditional looking, yet forgiving iron with soft feel...

X-Tours or Fusions or I302's or LT's or MP-60's or MX-23
I am a 10 or 11 hcp with decent ball striking and questionable short game. I play only once every couple weeks and would like some degree of forgivness, yet still would like a traditional looking club.

Please let me know what you think of any or all of these irons...

X-Tours

Fusions

I302's

TM LT's

MP-60's

MX-23's

Please let me know what you think.

Those are alll great clubs, I really liked the Srixon I-302s and the RAC LTs, I'm a 9 hdcp and found them very workable, forgiving and liked the simple traditional design. Having said that, I'm now using the Bridgestone J33 Combo forged irons and these are even better. You may want to consider them as well. You can read about these irons in several golf forums and they are truly quality sticks.

I play theBridgestone J33 Combos and even play their other clubs and will probably stay with them for awhile, actually the long irons are not any harder to hit than the Srixon 302s and the LTs. They have a tungsten weight which helps get them up in the air. It's been awhile since I had the Srixons but I believe the Bridgestones have a softer forged feel. I used the older RAC LTs and they are very soft for cast irons. I bought my son a set of the new LTs or LT2s and they are solid but I prefer the softer forged feel of the Bridgestones. The thing that's great about these 3 iron sets is you could buy them new or mint for around $400 to $500. The Mizuno MP 60s are nice too but to be honest with you, I would have paid the $700 or so for the Srixons, LTs and the Bridgestones. The MX 23 and the X Tours are also nice but looked too big and clunky to me.

Good Luck.

Might I add another choice, Titleist 704cb or 804os, both forged (very soft feeling) and priced right. Mike

i have x tours -fusions and mp 60,s - x tours fitted with r300 good bads but i thin too many shots with them

its all subjective but i believe the bounce is not good for my swing - fusions fitted with 5.5 rifles very easy to hit and quite long too - mp 60,s feel the real deal - fitted with rifle flighted 5.5 bit stiff for me but certainly feel they are has good as it gets.they :) look sexy too!

I'd recommend looking at the following;

-Titleist 704

-TS X-Blade CBs. Basically same as BS combos. but all clubs are CBs so a little more forgiving throughout.

-Miz MX-23. I don't feel that the 60s are as forgiving as others on this list.

-TS202. If you can handle a little offset these are AWESOME. Amazingly traditional looking considering how silly forgiving they are. And boy are they soft! IMO if you are still considering MP-60s also look at TS201s. Not as forgiving as 202s (more than 60s though) but less offset and more forgiving than you would think. Same soft feel as 202s. A great set that will cost less than 60s.

-TM LTs are a nice combo. of traditional and forgiving but are the only cast club on my list. I know I know, blind tests prove not even tour pros can tell the diff. between cast and forged... To each his own. I'll take forged if given the choice.

-Cally X Tour. IMO still a little bulky to be considered traditional, and the sole is not the best.

Good luck in your search!

You might want to also consider the new Hogan Edge irons that about to reach market. If they are anything like my old Edge Pros, they will feel like gold in your hands. Golfsmith's website has them for presale

X-Tours are way too thick on topline for my taste.

MP-60's are great irons from everyone I have talked too.

Best of luck in finding the right sticks.

I currently play TM LT1's not the second ones, and they are just great!!! You get the classic yet sophisticated looks, the soft feedback, and forgiveness. These clubs are perfect blend of playability and forgiveness. If you want a little more forgiveness try the LT2's if you want little less forginess try the forged RAC CB's. Overall Just amazing clubs...

Hands down the J33 Combo's! By far the best clubs for the money. I paid $399 for my 4-pw Brand new. I am a 10-12 and I feel I am a good ball striker as well but lacking short game consistentsy. I shot my lowest round of the year my day out with these sticks and I didnt even hit them first. Out of the box and then onto the first tee.

They are NOT demanding clubs! Oh yea my set before these were Wilson Deep Red II's distance model, so big huge heads. I felt these were easier to hit in all the irons! They have smallish heads that way a little bit more, so its easy to hit down through the ball and control your tempo.

If money wasn't really an issue I would still get the J33's but the MP60's would be very tempting to pick up.

j33 cavities. perfect looking, traditional shape. should be forgiving enough for you. not as much so as the x-tours/fusions/mx-23's (off your list) ... but, none of those is what i would call traditional-looking.
