Epon AF 302 - Anyone Still Playing Them?

MysteryV

Recommended Posts

I play the Endo forged OnOff Kuro 2015 version and they are fantastic. I just looked at the AF 303 and did an On-Line price check and I'm shocked

that the Epon Irons are around 2300-2500 bucks.

What's up with that sticker price?

The Q&A with the Epon USA folks goes some way to explaining the price point.

I play the AF 302 from 5-P all bent 1 degree strong, to match the AF 502 4 Iron ( for extra forgiveness). All with Shimada Tour lite shaft, which is the Epon recommended stock light weight shaft in Japan. Forgiving irons with Mid/high launch and stopping power on slick greens, powerful and yet unbelievable soft feel in the hands and would definitely recommend them to any accomplished players looking for a set of quality forged irons.

I've recently become enamored with the 302 and was wondering if anyone is still playing them. I'm thinking about picking up a set used, but for $800+, thought I'd see if today's opinions are still as overwhelmingly positive as in the old threads.

If I could find a set of copper's it would be a done deal, but trying to fight the urge to buy the standard chromes, and was hoping for your thoughts.

Thanks!

We get a lot of customers that buy the Epon AF 302 because of how forgiving and soft-feel they are.

I have 2 sets of 302 heads! This winter I’ll be testing shafts in them to see what I like best.

Anyone happen to be looking for some lefty 302 copper heads?

Why you getting rid of those!?

Nothing more than that I have been testing shafts in the chrome heads instead lately and I guess I don’t need 2 sets

Been playing these since I started this thread and still love em. The Modus 120 is an amazing match and feels absolutely incredible on pure strikes.

Still loving my 302s, however after getting myself a Skytrak for Christmas, I'm sensing the need to refinish at some point. I saw Coops flamed copper chromes and they look AMAZING, however I'm not sure about sending my iron heads to Bankok. Wish someone here in the states would do a sick copper chrome finish.

That would be awesome

Epon no longer offer this fnish at all in ANY iron head - mine were refinished by Epon/endo, but this is no longer an option in any form.

And i wouldn't trust any other refinish either - my 301's are 8++ years and still fine and gorgeous - it's some special sauce thy added to the nickel plating underneath the chrome plating... so you get all the corrosion resistance and long life of a chorme plated head with a coppery look.

TSG was offering a copper finish, while not as good I’m sure it still looked good. No pics of a set after many rounds so I never bit the bullet and I don’t know if they still offer that service.

Not Epon’s but I did get my miura wedges and irons refinished in copper plate with brushed nickel on top. Here is a wedge that I removed the brushed nickel. I’ve been playing them for a few months now and the finish is holding up well. 7ee4a4cd55da5b3d3bd3138a780d517f.jpg0f6101ad3c63d45152065b5f1750e636.jpg

why you worried about sending heads here to Bangkok?

just send the by ems or equivalent

no problems

Well, if I could still get that finish that Coop had, I would absolutely do it. I wouldn't really worry about the shipping per se, but the pain in a** of pulling all the heads, getting over the language barrier, customer service when I inevitably wanted my heads back sooner than they were ready, etc. :D

Anyone interested in a set? I've got one with Modus 105 stiff that I'll let go for a reasonable price.

Are they copper and minty? :D

JYYVHAJCEZ6S.jpegStill have my left copper AF302's. I haven't been playing them, but love to look at them in my office. They are kind of like artwork. I will post a few pictures when I get a chance.

UYK3BHMRYGEB.jpgStill have my copper's, like MOB mine are mainly office decoration. I have a satin set that I play, for an iron from 2009 not much beats the 302's. I was lucky to find the satin's with some Ozik Program F15 120's in them. These make the feel even better it seems. The copper's have NS pro 1150 S in them. The original owner put a Monaco Tour Prototype in the 7 iron, the shaft colour is the same colour of the copper head, absolutely stunning combination. I have the rest of the Monaco shafts, just can't seem to bring myself to mess with the original shafts and ferrules. The 7 iron with the Monaco shaft feels amazing to hit.

That's a really good picture. Tough to capture the purples in these type finishes (just check my BOS refinished Newport 2 I posted in the club making thread).
