Best DIY Way To Add A Sight Dot or Line On The Top Line?

I can think of ten different ways off the top of my head but I'm sure that someone has a better way to do it than me.

What is the best way or material that I can use to add sight dot or sight line on the top line of my PING TR Anser 1966?

Have added several site dots for some of the refinish work I do for others. Here's my method, I experiment with sharpy dot to find exact sweetspot , before anything else. Once found then measure to find dead center of topline where sweetspot is. Using a center punch make your mark for drilling, I use a 1/8 bit to get siteline, not real deep, maybe 1/32 or so then clean up edges with a small countersink.

 

Suggest using the old measure twice drill once method, you get one shot...

I've seen people take white out or a paint pen, mark the spot with a hole punched through tape, and just paint it on. It can be removed as needed. That way, if you screw up, you get a re-do.

you'd have to spray some sort of lacquer over it to make it permanent if you plan on using it in competitions

This is false per USGA

Find someone with a drill press. I did one for a coworker on the same putter actually.

Definitely use tape first. If you like it, then drill it out later

I have used a paper hole punch and made small circles from lead tape. They work great. Gives you the ability to experiment and go back to stock easily.
