This is the exact reason I moved on from the Spider Tour. I had the black DJ model. For whatever reason, I felt that I was leaving a ton of putts short. Almost as if I were thinning them to an extent. The putter itself was great to swing and was very stable but the insert just didn't work for me consistently. Putt to putt just didn't work.

When I saw the 7s I decided I'd give it a try and if it doesn't work, send it back or sell it. No skin off my back. The O-works insert is right up my alley. Feel is subjective so I won't bother you there but I can only say that the roll is more consistent. Distance control has been much more repeatable and I had my best round of the year today with it.

Looking for some feedback as I'm interested in purchasing a spider tour. I've read that many have distance control issues.. for those who have an issue

- was it the red or black?

- what putter did you move on to?

- did you try the oddsey 7s?

Feel is subjective but I will let you know my experiences with these putters. I changed my putting stroke a couple of months back and got fitted. It was recommended that I go for a mallet with between 30-45* of toe hang.

The Spider Tour black felt a tad albeit noticeably, firmer than the red. If you rolled each one for 5 minutes, you would figure out which one you prefer the feel of.

I preferred the black. I honestly think that I've never putted better with any putter inside 6 feet as I did with the Spider black. It was so stable. Middle distances were also decent but I just couldn't dial it in on the ones beyond 15 feet. I felt I had to really give it a good whack on lag putts and that in turn, threw off my feel, pace, line etc. For that reason, it never made the bag.

I found with the O-Works range (the 7s included) that they're too soft to offer any form of feedback. On good, mediocre or bad putts, the feel was the exact same for me.

A putter that I have been looking at for the past week and I'm seriously debating pulling the trigger on is the Taylormade TP Collection Mullen that came out at the end of last year. It's a mid mallet with a flow neck that has the same 38* of toe hang as the Spider Tour but the Mullen's headweight is 5g's lighter at 350g with interchangeable weights. To the naked eye, the 7s has the same amount of toe hang.

My lag putting was much better with the Mullen compared to the Spider. I was also very happy with how the Mullen performed on short and medium putts. It felt very stable. It didn't feel too soft either for an insert putter which I liked as well plus it let me know when I had a mishit but it was also forgiving.

Hope this helps

I have the red spider and feel like my distance control with the 7 is much better. White hot pro 7 vs red spider tour same grip and length and the whp7 is currently the winner.

I haven't compared with 7s

I had the Spider Tour Red and I liked it ok as long as the greens rolled quickly (Portland OR area or WineValley in Walla Walla). But I played out in Idaho at Circling Raven and Indian Canyon and I could not get the ball to the hole - the ball just wouldn't roll into the grain or uphill well. Luckily I brought my old Mizuno 0803 heel shafted putter and used it for the remaining rounds, Heel shafted is not best for me but at least I could roll the ball the right distances with it. I just sold the Spider on eBay.

I've moved on to the Oddesey O-Works 1W putter, Easy to hit on target and ball rolls well. I haven't used it anywhere but the putting green yet. Hopefully the face insert does not cause me distance issues, if so I'll move to a solid putter.

I did not get the 7s the face height feels to shallow.
