Best sleeper fairway wood of all time.

High Plains Driver

Recommended Posts

Orlimar Trimetals - were already mentioned. Still see quite a few of these around, sticking out like sore thumbs, in amongst fairly new bags.

I still have an 11 degree that comes out for a couple of courses that I play with 600+ yd par 5s.

If you invest in a new driver you would only have iron into those par 5's :)

Id say the best sleeper fairway wood ive ever played was the rapture v2. I know it gets some love, but nothing like the g15 or g25. the rapture v2 was solid as nails when it came out, and it could easily still be gamed today.

Probably whatever 3-wood is in my bag... mainly because it's sleeping for all but about 4 tee-shots a round on my home course, but completely necessary for them (though I'll even fall back to my 5w when I can't keep the 3w in check).

My drives average about 230 to 240 give or take depending how I square up the face. I carry a 4-wood. On a 512 yard par five I was pin high in two shots, driver/4 wood. The strange part of that combination was the 4w was 260yds, driver about 250yds.

I have a Sonartec SS07 5 wood with a GD Purple Ice that I might have $35 invested in. It's the best fairway wood that i've ever owned.

I've been quite pleasantly surprised by the Adams Tight Lies Tour 5w w/ Aldila Tour Blue I picked up for my backup bag recently... to the point that it's currently displaced my Cobra King F7 5/6w. It's so much easier to consistently launch and I don't seem to fight the hook with it nearly as bad, actually producing a pretty consistent manageable fade. Best part was it was ~$14 with codes stacked at Global... I went ahead and got the matching 3w as well based on the results of the 5w, and it should be here soon... if I can hit it consistently off the deck, it would be a first for a 3w ad I currently only carry one for tight tee shots or those with trouble my driver won't clear.

My picks would both have to come from Mizuno. The MP Titanium and MP650 fairway woods are some of the longest and best hitting fairway woods ever made. The 650 had the deeper face while the MP Titanium was smaller with a shallow face. Definitely sleepers but should hold a cult status for performance.

The VSteel, MP-650,Adams Super LS, and CB2 are FAR and away from being "sleepers". Each one was arguably the best Fairway Wood of their year(s).

That's like saying the 2002 Corvette ZO6 is a "sleeper".

For real guys.

A perfect example of a bomber that flew under the radar would be the Nike SQ Square Face 4wd... or a Sonartec, or a Grenade.

Fred Couples still plays a Callaway "Squareway". Is definitely a sleeper, for player like him to like it that much

Saw him play last weekend and he was saying on the range he can't find anything he liked better. He said he can do what he wants with it, high/low cuts/draws. Still absolutely bombs it.

Cool deal. I'm actually surprised he tried in the first place! I believe there wood be a lot more guys doing this on the regular tour, if it wasn't for the money to play the "latest and greatest"

Nice...I'd agree with that.

I just hope people don't come on here calling the M1\M2 fairway woods "sleepers"...lol.

TEE X-rail

Compact shape with huge forgiveness, sits square. Deepish face for tee shots and rail sole for versatility from the turf. Pair with a low spin shaft and it's a great stick.
