I inquired about this a few months ago also. I want to do the whole Taylormade experience out in Carlsbad but am a little hesitant on spending the 5 bills on it. I know it lasts like 3 hours or something and they check every single aspect of your game which to me sounds awesome. I think the best thing is if you do that then they get a super discount on anything you buy from them (probably a little more than cost) so that alone may be worth it, plus I think some of the money you put into the fitting goes towards your purchase as well. The only thing I don't like about the fitting at say your local course is they tend to be geared to a specific brand of clubs, for example all of the military courses out here are certifiied Ping fitters. Now I'm not sure how much of a difference it would be trying to go from TM to Ping but if you are going to swing TM sticks I would personally get fitted for TM sticks by someone at TM.

I spoke with a guy at my local course one day, who had just returned from the TaylorMade "Kingdom". However, he didn't pay no $400, he got in there through a mutual friend for free. I don't think this is the same as you're talking about (as he said he went to Greensboro, GA I believe) and I asked him how much it would cost the average Joe to go...........$4,000 he says. It's six hours of fitting, it takes you 15 minutes just to get "dressed" with all the sensors and stuff they put on there.

I believe they take vast measurements with every single club in your bag, and fit you properly for every single club individually. For $4k, of course, the clubs you get are included in that price.

The one and only issue I see with this is you only have access to TM clubs. As you can see by my sig, I'm not exactly brand loyal (although I've played Titleist irons since the 962B days), I'll go with whatever gets the ball where I want to go.

However, for a proper fitting and a possible discount (at or slightly above cost) I think it would be well worth the $400-500 to go and get it from a place like you're referring to.

I think there are some golf schools you can attend for a few hundred bucks and they give you a gift card to a mfg (Callaway is the one I'm thinking now) which basically means you get the instruction for like $100. Just a few things to think about.

I'm looking to go to Carlsbad for the fitting.

Sorry, I can only speak from experience about the TMPL at Reynolds Plantation in GA. One thing about Carlsbad though. I stopped by the place (that would be the Kingdom, across the street from TM-HQ) last year when my wife and I stayed at Aviara. We basically got the bum's rush out of the place when we told them we stopped by to look and say hi. The TMPL that was on-site at Aviara was a bit of a visual disappointment, though there were people next to it on the upper range taking lessons. The TMPL at Reynolds LOOKS like what your expectations would be. The personnel are outstanding and customer-focused.

My guess is the sessions are structured the same at all TMPLs, but the presentation may not be. Good luck.

Your friend went for the full boat. There is a rate of $400 for a 2-hour session (you don't get clubs). You can get it included in a package at the Ritz Carlton for around $600 a night (includes lodging).

I went to TM Carlsbad in 2001 and did the whole factory tour and hit at the range across the street. At that time it was $75. I forget how long I was there but I hit a lot of balls and went through a lot of tests for fitting. A nice side benefit is usually there are some tour pros there that you get to talk with.

I would say it is worth the $400.

  • 4 weeks later...

I went to a Taylormade MATT center in Toronto last spring, was 250 i think for a few hours. And they did a good job on everything, covered all clubs in the bag including putter. Would definitely reccomend it to people.

P.S. The selectfit system at most places is a waste of time, unless u just want to get the feel of a few different heads. Thats all it's good for.
