Not all Odyssey #7's are created equal...

Was looking at an Odyssey White Ice #7 for sale in the BST today and got me thinking. Went to the shop during lunch and they had the Metal X #7 and the White Hot Pro #7, but no White Ice #7.

 

What surprised me was that the White Hot Pro #7 head was considerably larger than the Metal X #7 head (15-20%?). I wanted to compare the White Ice #7, but can't even find that model listed on the Odyssey website. I did find the following about the White Ice #7, though it does not talk about size.

 

White Ice #7

• Features: Modified Mallet with weighted alignment wings, a double bend shaft and full shaft offset.
  
• Size: Lengths - 33", 34" 35" Loft - 3 degrees Lie - 70 Headweight - 33"/34" - 360 grams; 35" - 345 grams
  

 

Anyone have any idea how White Ice #7 compares in size? Any strong advocates of one over the other? (Interesting the shorter shafts have a heavier weight.) Personally, I preferred the larger White Hot Pro #7 in the store (over the Metal X #7).

I prefer the larger head of the WHP #7. I believe the WHP insert is one of Odyssey's best and with a Superstroke 3.0 it's so good.

Whackit, there is a noticeable difference between the White Ice #7 I just sold and the Versa #7 that replaced it. The Versa head is considerably smaller width and also the fangs are not as long. It's like a "mini" head - similar to what you mention with the Metal X

If you want the larger head with the Metal X it can be had in the belly or broomstick version

I have all versions Versa/Tank/Metal/Tour/White Hot XG/ White Ice/Pro.

All versions are pretty much identical with the exception of Tank and Pro

The #7 Pro is 1/4" longer from the face to the back of head and 3/4" longer heel to toe on the face.

That's the version Donald and Poulter use, seems to work for them pretty well. The white ice insert feels a little more firm then the new one does at least to me. I don't play an odyssey putter but if I did I'd choose a white ice model.

Can you compare the size of the clubheads? (a picture would be nice )
I want to know how big White Hot Tour #7H 's head is compared to other #7's. Is it smaller than White Ice? Does anyone know?

Very general observations but the White Ice, the White Hot Pro and the WH Tour are larger. The Tour also has crazy heavy versions at 360g. (I think the WI doesn't pick up a gimme.)

The original XG, Metal X and Versa are smaller. I like the WHP and the WI feel the best. That XG insert is a bit too soft for me. Might be that grid pattern on it.

I have the White Ice version. The thing that pisses me off vs the White Hot Pro is that you can't scoop up the ball from the green using the fangs on the White Ice.

For real, it bugs me.

Other than that, it is the best putter I have ever owned.

I like the White Ice #7 too and I also hate the fact that it doesn't pick up a ball. Why would they do that?

Then I realize that in golf, you never need to pick up the ball with your putter. But still. It's sooo close.

I scored for Donald's group at the Barclays and it looked more like the milled black series 7 to me - darker finish than the XG and definitely not the std XG face (just an XG headcover). the last time I saw poulter putt, he wasn't using a #7 at all and had gone back to a blade putter.

EDIT: Just looked on GettyImages and there was a pretty clear shot of Luke holding his putter with the sole facing the camera. It's definitely a XG but he uses a Black Series grip.

Is the toe hang different on the different versions of the #7? I have a WBW Versa and it isn't completely face balanced. I'd say 5% toe hang. Are some fully face balanced or are they all like the Versa with a touch of toe hang?
