Watching Ricky Fowler on TV, it appears he stands very straight when putting, and that his putter is longer than usual. Anyone else see this, or is it just me? Wonder how long his putter shaft is??

He does stand very tall but you have to remember that Rickie isn't very tall. I think he is like 5'7" or something, so his putter is probably something standard like a 33 or 34 inch

Richard Flower is actually a little taller in person than he gets credit for. I thought I had read somewhere that his putter is in the 35" range. For example, I'm 6ft and have a Newport at home that's 34in and I cannot get into the same posture (standing that tall) as Rickie. So I would say it would have to be around 35.

Yeah I'm thinking it's probably around 35 or so. It has to be pretty long for how upright he stands.

Agreed, plus his arms don't really hang down, he kind of tucks his elbows in a bit, which would require the putter to be even longer for how he stands.

He's 5'9". Last I saw his Scotty was 35 inches. Which is odd because his irons are a half inch short.

they were talking (very positively) about his putting stroke last weekend on the golf channel in the preround show (when he was warming up). He bends his elbows more than most people (it seems to me) and putts with his wrists (they said). he doesnt bend his spine much (it seems to me) and his putter shaft is closer to his body than avearge. so far, he is not doing well this weekend, but i like his putting stroke quite a bit.

Rickie says he is 5'7", but 5'9" with spikes

5"11" with his flat bill.

35 inch putter.

LOL - if he's 5'11" Dustin Johnson is 11 feet tall. And yeah, I've always noticed how Fowler appears to play an overlength putter. Maybe standard with an upright lie angle or something?

I might be completely wrong with this, but I seem to remember someone saying that his putter was one that was originally made for Tiger? Have I dreamt that?

Spot on! The story I heard was that Fowler found it in one of the store rooms.

There are a lot of things about golf I've wondered about. The length of Rickie's putter isn't one of them. Now, there are a lot of things I've wondered about Paige Sprainurnec!

I have admired his stroke for some time and noticed all the comments above; he also keeps his feet very close together which I suppose is necessary to stay so straight up. When I think of his stroke more than anyone else's, I really feel like he putts with his hands more than anyone else. Truly a great putter, probably the least "mechanical" looking

Found this bit info for anyone interested. Looks like 35" it is, but not sure if that is really 34.5" for the "Scotty" way of measurement or not... :)

"So it makes sense that when Rickie wanted to change things up with his putting last year, he went straight to the source. They did a lot of testing with Rickie, and ended up realigning his setup: "His lower body and upper body were going in opposite directions," Cameron wrote. With the new setup, they needed a new putter to match it.

This is where it gets cool. Rickie, Scotty and one of the fitters, Paul, came across a "dusty-topped box" that contained putterheads originally made for Tiger, called the Newport 2 GSS. (GSS stands for German Stainless Steel, an Acushnet trademarked term for a type of 303 stainless steel.)

The head is similar to the Newport 2, except the lines are a bit sharper and the face more shallow. They took it, attached a shaft so it stands at 35 inches (70 degree lie and 3 degrees of loft), stamped "Rickie Fowler" on it, and gave it a silver finish. The putter was in his bag all last season for his top five finishes in each of the 2014 Majors, and he used it when he was dropping all those birdie putts down the stretch to win the Players this year."

Love Rickie's stroke since he started putting the way he is now. I try to model my putting setup and stroke after him. I'm 5'10ish but I game a 35" putter which helps to get me standing taller.

Wonder what the weight is on a head made for Tiger, guessing 340.

Also assume those heads are probably worth 20k 40k each. Haha

Tiger's putters are super light, in the 320's IIRC. Not so crazy with a 35" shaft and a small light grip (Studio Design.)

I've been trying to emulate Rickie's putting. The upright stance doesn't kill my back when practicing, and he makes more mid-range putts than nearly anyone else.

Same here! Love his putting style - just impulse bought a 35in Pro Platinum Newport 2. I believe the head weights on those were in the 330's.

TW had it refinished so many times (ie. touching it up, smoothing the face, fixing dings, grinding here, grinding there to get the shape like it wanted it), apparently it WAS in the 335-340 range at birth. He has since added lead tape to the sole to get it feeling a touch heavier.
