Review: MP18 SC w/c taper lite

played 27 with them today... Yep, these are keepers! They are much more forgiving that originally thought. If you are looking at AP2 or similar clubs, try the SC!

C Taper lite hits it higher than my s300 AMT and regular C taper. I'm loving hitting my 4 iron again. I think I may have picked up about 5 yards...probably due to lighter shaft and better trajectory. I actually got that 4 iron to stop easily.

I'm currently playing S400's in my irons and have played DG my whole life but tried out the C Taper Lite last night and they felt amazing. I also gained about 5 yds and dispersion was tight. I was surprised after trying both the S and X that I found the X to be the one for me and I've played S my whole life. Sadly I'm up here in Canada and although the weather here is amazing for this time of year and we're able to still get out on the links I know the snow will soon fly so I'll have to wait a few months before I can try a set of these in my sticks but next season will definitely be opening with a set of CTL's.

I fit into stiff in just about everything but I play X in C Taper Lite. Slightly heavier and I like that 115g weight, which is mid but a lot lighter than S300 or S400. I soft step them once and it's perfect. This shaft and Nipppn 120 S hard-stepped are my two favorite iron shafts for feel.

I would heed others to take it with a grain of salt on the KBS C-Taper and Lite (which is the exact opposite to the original despite the similar name tag; they perform opposite on the spectrum).

It's discerning when you test a whole

set of irons at 115-120 grams on a 6 iron vs a whole set for PW to 3 iron.

Personally, I've hit all the of the mentioned shafts and the S300 AMT prevailed from my PW to 3 iron because I needed the lowest launching and lowest spin rate.

Anything else, is above those criteria; example, KBS is mid launch / spin and the Nippon high launch /spin

What do you need?

I've played DG shafts for years -- S300, AMT, DG Pro -- and liked the DG Pro the best. Next would be AMT. But I like their Project X Rifle line the most of the True Temper shafts.

Not all Nippons are high launch/high spin. I tested some that were -- the 105, for example -- and did not like. The Modus 120 has a long, stiff tip section and a mid/high kickpoint. Reduces spin and more penetrating trajectory. The design is not like the lighter weight Nippons. It allows you to get away with a release that is a little early. Or mid or late. Won't matter with this shaft. Super Peening Blue is also lower launch.

At the same time, they will apex higher and will stop on a green. I like iron shafts with as little release as possible after landing. I would try multiple shafts. Definitely a major factor on how a club feels.

I’ve been playing Mizuno mp60’s for a long time. Never found another club that felt so smooth on center strikes. How do you think the MP18Sc would compare as far as feel and forgiveness? Thanks.

Always liked the look of the cut muscle MP60. Nice clubs. It is a more of a full cavity than the MP18 SC. I see a little more perimeter weighting in the MP60, which aids forgiveness, but not a huge difference. I would guess they would be pretty comparable, but best to hit them. And the MP18 MMC head would be more forgiving by design than the MP60.

I can say I really could tell no difference in feel between the MP18 full muscleback and the split cavity. Maybe a hit higher on the face would feel different but the SC felt great to me, nicer impact than the Srixon z965 I also have, which is a full blade. The MP18 SC and MMC are both very playable. If you can play an MP60, you can play the MP18. With the Nippon Modus 120 shaft I have in mine, even the longer irons are easy to launch. I really had no adjustment period with mine. Hit them well immediately. But I am playing Fli-Hi 5 iron and MMC for 6-7. SC is 8-P for me. I had the 7 iron loft weakened 1 degree for blending with the SC 8.
