P770? No love?

The 790 UDI 1 and 2 irons are coming!

Don't be too sure of that...Those may only be made as 'Tour issued only' clubs, and not available for Retail!... :swoon:

:golfer:

As a long time Mizuno owner, I really wanted to like and buy the JPX 900's, but they just didn't look or feel right to me. The 770's are a nice compromise......not too big, and not too small. They fit my eye perfectly, are workable and feel great! I thought I might have difficulty with the longer irons, but they are plenty forgiving. Despite the hype of the 790's I have no interest in switching.

In order from P730 to P790

I will take P770 all day long over those P790 shovels!

P770 would be equivalent to an Ap2 or MMC for those who wants players looks with some forgiveness. Plenty market for that!!

Just got my set and love them. It’s true, it doesn’t fit for a lot of people. I didn’t know that I could hit the 750s as well, but I didn’t want something as big as the 790s. A good set, just doesn’t do the best in a single category. Touches on forgiveness and a players look without going too much either way.

Don't see these mentioned on here often.

Ppl loving these still? On my radar for an off season purchase

We fit a few players for the TaylorMade P770s. Many think that the P770s feel a little hard. The P750s are supposed to feel softer. However, it could just be the demo heads.

I certainly love mine and the combination of workability AND forgiveness made this a better call for me than the 750s. My dispersion was much better, and I don't play enough to get good enough to handle the 750s!

790s are a chance to fill the 3-4 iron slots, but I am yet to hit them. The fitting heads for the 7 iron looked and felt better than I thought they would, so definitely in the conversation.

Very solid clubs that check off most boxes for me. Love the look, especially standing over the ball. Not a huge upgrade over my previous set. I don't think the technology is all that advanced but I guess it doesn't need to be.

Few more swings today with my buddies set. Feel softer then my ap2. But are thicker .

I think the new mp18 sc look bigger then both the 770 and the ap2.

I am a scratch handicap but do like some help on the off days.

Hmm decisions

Would like to find a used set but hard to find the rift set with the right shafts

I don’t know what kind of perspective distortion is going on there, but that is NOT an accurate representation of the P790.

What's wrong with it? Pretty accurate from what I have seen.

All I have to do is look at the 770 hosel size compared to the 790 hosel size to know something is being distorted to my eye

770 and other hosels are pointed down or away, that's all. The 730 blade hosel appears the same size as 790, least to my eye

It's more than that.. the top line and other elements are being skewed also...it's hard to line them up in your hand and get an accurate depiction so I understand how it happens.

Here is a better picture of the 770 next to the 750. Do you still think the picture above is an accurate depiction of top lines, etc.?

TaylorMade-P770-irons-unveiled-2-630x473.jpg

And the 790 and 770 side by side from another member's post (the 770 has blue tape).. but notice how the top lines are not that different?

I don't buy TM making 790 with an unusually large hosel, when they all come in .355.

  • 1 month later...

Still loving mine. I will say that the 3 has been replaced with the 790 and the 4/5 may soon follow. 6-PW will remain 770 though.

Just curious, how is the gapping between your P790 3i and P770 4 iron? I’m debating pulling the trigger on a combo set with P790 3-4-5 and P770 6-PW.

Thanks!

I own a set of P790s, 4 through GW and a set of P770s, 6 through PW. For me, the two sets could not gap well without strengthening the loft on the P770s, or weakening the loft of the P790s. The P790s are simply too long. I have compared them to Ping i200s, P770s, and AP3s on a simulator and for me, the P790s were clearly the winner in terms of distance. I really love to hit the P770s, because they have the true forged feel and the consistency was incredible on decent strikes. However, they simply are not in the neighborhood of the P770s in terms of raw distance.

Is anyone seeing much performance difference from 750->770?

Personally, I really like the 750's and don't care for the 770's as much. I bought 4-6 in 770 at first, and I've swapped all of that out for the 750, as I hit them a good bit better. They feel better and get through the turf better for me - i.e. a bit more blade like.

I see a lot of used sets at my local Roger Dunn Golf Shop.

I just think in that class there are so many better choices.

I used to love TM around 2012 but i don't think very much of their irons anymore. Drivers are still good

I have to admit that I was in the same boat to some extent but I do see a positive difference in their current releases.

I still use mine. I've never fully been in love with them. That's because they're 1/2" shorter than my last set, and I've lost the slightest bit of distance with them. But I'm much more accurate now.

I also hate the looks of the 790's. It looked great for a 2 UDI, but a full bag? Just too GI for me. I do have buyers remorse after seeing the 730's. Had all 4 sets been released at the same time, I would have definitely gone with the 730's.
