He did the same thing at Nike, doesn't that kind of back up my point? Sure they eventually released the TW Blades at Nike and I guess they did moderately well. My bet is that these TGR irons never get released. The TM reps have to want their guys playing something that at least resembles retail. So he's not playing their irons, not playing the ball.........I guess the woods and wedges are enough?

No doubt Phil gets a little crazy with his equipment. But if you look at his bag besides the putter he is playing stock Callaway heads......with maybe just a touch of lead tape thrown in there at times. :) You could say the PM wedge was Phil being a diva but they released it at retail and it has done quite well.

Look Tiger is the GOAT, you need an ego to be that good, and I guess he has earned the right to be demanding. But to me it screams "I'm so good that I need something different from everyone else. Nobody makes anything good enough for me." That's just how I read it.

I think you just hate Tiger. And that's ok.

Rory said in that recent podcast "I really don't want to mess with all of that prototype stuff. I don't need something made especially for me. Just give me something that works and I'll play it."

That sounds great in theory but both Callaway and TM made sets especially for him.

Point taken, but having a current club (Apex MB raw, new TM blade) and having the offset reduced or toe grinded a certain way is far different than what Tiger does.

And the Phrankenwood seriously? One club where he had the loft reduced and shaft lengthened?

Oh well, this is like arguing politics. Nobody wins. Tiger and Phil are both great for the game. Both are divas and we know that. Let's get Tiger healthy so we can see these guys down the stretch at Augusta in April.

Definitely vr pros. Don’t blame him! Such a good blade. I’m assuming this is the set he uses for awhile. May take some time for taylormade to build the exact set or something close. Who knows

I am not really sure of the details on Tiger and Taylormade's contract, but if I was them I would be a little annoyed. Just use the 730's and the milled grind wedges and get used to them. Clearly re branded Nike irons and using old Nike wedges.

Agreed. I wonder if this could be a indication that TW and TM are parting ways in the future?

Would make sense. He's very unlikely to use their clubs to any success given his injury problems and given the new owners will be looking to make cuts...I can't see his contract being beneficial to them in the long run.

If Tiger returns to any form, his contract will be beneficial to TaylorMade. And I’m pretty sure the current TM owners had to OK the deal with Tiger because they agreed to buy TaylorMade soon after the Tiger deal was made even though the contract is heavily dependent on how many tournaments Tiger plays.

Random question.....does anyone know whether or not the steel shafts that he used in his driver and 3 wood back in the day, were "standard" DG wood shafts.....or were they a prototype made for his custom bore throughs?

Tiger used X-100 in his driver & 3 wood until around 2004/5. I remember Phil talking about Tiger playing inferior equipment , by using a small cc head driver and steel shaft.

If Miura irons are the shinizzle, why didn't any of the players with no contract (Nike guys) put them in the bag? Just sayin'. Seems like a lot of Mizuno irons in play though.

Edit: Stephen Ames doesn't count. I'm talking PGA Tour.

They don't have Tour vans?

So, having a Tour van is an influential factor? Pretty weak.

Seriously, these guys can play whatever they want and none of them chose Miura.

Maybe because they are testing Mizuno irons because Mizuno will pay if you test them, like them, and want a deal

Mizuno doesn't pay anyone to play their irons last I was told except Luke, Stacey, and Chris.

"told"?

http://insider.mizunousa.com/2017/04/12/mizuno-bolsters-player-roster/

Tour rep lives down the street from my shop. So yes, told. Koepka and Casey aren't on that list. There are a few others gaming Mizuno by choice too. Still no Miura.

Makes you wonder, they may have been good at forging, but maybe not so much at the design. I've always liked Miura irons but have never played them.

Jonathan Wall wonders (and so do I), why the Nike badging was taken off his irons but not off the wedges

My guess is that his TM wedges aren't ready yet. Wonder if they are loading his grind onto a program to have the grind milled? If so that's probably a long process to get just so.

So why not put the TGR badging on his wedges while he waits? Unless you think the irons he has now are the TaylorMade irons he will use and TaylorMade and Tiger don't want websites like WRX guessing about Tiger's clubs.

The irons were being made for Tiger around same time as exit of Nike from equipment segment.Since branding aesthetics are one of last steps in making custom irons for tour players, Tiger was able to choose same due to contract flexibility situation allowed. No conspiracy to remove branding was present.

Maybe because people have romanticized the Miura brand and think there is magic pixie dust in the metal he uses to forged club heads. Reality is Mizuno and many other companies make irons just as soft and just as good if not better from a tech standpoint. I know it's not exciting news but it's reality. Miura not having tour support is another BIG factor. If they don't have a van why would a pro who needs things right then and there bother? These van's go through dozens or hundreds of clubs a day for these guys so it's vital to have your team there to support players.

There is a lot of support for players from the shaft vans too. True Temper is always helping the other OEM's take care of their builds, for example.

His TGR wedges are still in the process of refinement:)

Or maybe he isn't needing new wedges yet.
