Epic is out...enter the Rogue

I was also told that this is an Epic replacement... from the story I heard, the feedback Callaway received indicated that players were having consistency and accuracy issues with the Epic so the Epic and Fusion driver had a baby named Rogue... the desire result was a driver with the length of the Epic but more consistency and forgiveness like Fusion.

this surprises me, my Epic driver is very consistent and the ball flight is outstanding. The operator, not so much....

Drivers are like horses and courses I suppose!

If that's true, then Rogue is a very poor name choice - as there nothing about the word Rogue that means consistent.

Sort of like a Chevy that they tried to sell in spanish speaking countries named Nova ... which of course loosely translated means "doesn't go".

Of course it's just a rumor I heard... no way for me to verify it at this point.

Tried to? It's sold great.

..and then there was the unfortunate attempt to sell the Mitsubishi Pajero in Spain...

Fear the power of the Urban Myth....lol

Too bad, it was (is) a good myth I guess.

Got some clarification and apparently I did not understand what I first heard... all are correct who said that it is not the Epic line that is changing for the now... the surprise expressed which I mistook was that the Epic name or lineage was not being continued and carried over into the new club coming out (e.g. Epic Rogue instead of just Rogue).

From what I understand more clearly is that the XR's are done and the Fusion will be phased out over the next year meaning likely there will not be a Fusion II. The Rogue is a melding of the two model lines (XR and Fusion) into a single model line. It uses some technology from the Fusion and some from the Epic lines. Head shape for example is more Fusion like but jailbreak tech is absolutely Epic of course.

Callaway has became Taylor Made. Wth? The epic has barely even been out.

Did you just come out of a coma LOL? Callaway has been releasing as much if not more product as TM for at least the last 6-7 years. They simply get criticized for it less than TM does. Personally I love all of the choices that both TM & Cally have provided. They both make great gear that fits a wide range of players.

I think it's great, and creates excitement. It just goes wrong when the consumer is confused and thinks that every new model replaces the latest model release. Just like cars, there are different models to meet different needs in the marketplace.

The director of Marketing at TaylorMade has now been the director of Marketing at Callaway for the time period of which you speak. :good:

Yeah, I guess clubs still wrapped in plastic from CPO is different than clubs wrapped in plastic from DSG.

At least at DSG you can custom order the shaft you want. Not so much through CPO...hence the cheaper cost.

Agree on that. CPO only works if they happen to have the head/shaft combo you are looking for. But still surprised that brand new Epics are on there so quick. I mean the average non WXRer will normally walk into a retail store and buy the one off the shelf. Which is probably a Hzdurs or Fujikura Pro shaft, and they have both on there for $170 less. Just seems odd so quick. I know if I was a retail owner I would be upset they were selling direct for so much less than I could. I mean give me a MAP and then you go an discount it direct. Would really tick me off. I don't see Cobra doing that to their retailers, but yet they get the boot.

You can buy new at Callaway CPO with any shaft and customized length $330.

You can buy "Like New" based on what they have listed. Callaway CPO does not sell new (expect for maybe some old clearance product they want get rid of). Based on my experience buying from Callaway CPO, like new would be as close to new as you can get without it being new.

I got my, like new, Epic at CPO, not a mark on it. Currently 20% off, roughly $340.

Nice grab for $340. I love when people make comments without knowing what they are talking about. I got my Epic last month for $362 from CPO with Graphite Design MJ7S and the head was wrapped in plastic and shaft was 100% new as well. You ABSOLUTELY can get a brand new Epic from CPO.

Like new may be new. As others had already noted, the use CPO to liquidate excess stock, etc...

More news from a higher up at Callaway. The Rogue IS the new "tour" driver" and IS the replacement for Epic range. They will still have Epics available for people that want a driver with more adjustablilty ie. the sliding weight in the standard Epic. There will be no more ads or marketing of any sort for the Epic line of drivers.

So now that Callaway has the #1 driver in the marketplace they want to replace it and pretend it’s gone off to greener pastures? The irons have barely been out.

Of course everything must move forward, but if they are trying to follow TaylorMade’s script of a precipitous fall from grace, they are well on their way.

DAMN THIS THREAD..... Just ordered a Like New Epic My wife hates all of you

I bought the wife an Epic months before I bought mine. She was still hitting a 910 Titleist. We both love the Epics, funny but hers sounds different, I never notice mine.

In my experience "Like New" means new, and "Very Good" means somebody might have used it as an in-store demo once but you probably can't tell. CPO seriously under-rates condition.

Once bought an average condition XR16 3w and it came with like... 1 scuff on top. It was probably used a few times by some guy who hated it for whatever reason and ended up trading in. Unless I really wanted a mint looking club(s), I'd probably never buy above the "good" condition.

Callaway releases a new club within 6 months that isn't going to change anything besides maybe an extra yard. They are making me despise them like I do Taylormade. No thanks.

I've said it before but how can you say "they are making me despise them" when they haven't even launched a new wood line or even said any word about a potential new line? Everyone here is posting thoughts about something that a rep is showing accounts but no one knows when it's being released or exactly what it is replacing. It could be a product for January or February which is 3 months from now? how do you know it will only bring you 1 extra yard? Maybe whatever they bring to market could increase distance for you by 5 yards or tighten dispersion by half. Why not wait until launch to make a decision on a club you and half the people here have never seen in person much less actually hit?
