Still playing Nike Vapor Combos?

Anyone hit the Vapor Pros who's also hit the Original Blades and the VR Pros? ...

I got both the Vapor Pros and the VR Pro. No problem switching back and forth, as I think they're not that different in feel. The Vapors are a bit more forgiving on slight mishits, but the feel on great strikes might be even nicer with the VRs.

Get them! Then do this. All it takes is a bit of sandpaper, steel wool and paint.

Will continue to be the best looking set of clubs the coming 20 years - and they perform great!

.

Those look awesome. What type of sandpaper did you use?

Just some regular stuff from the local hardware store. Can't remember the exakt grit numbers

1. Medium grit (100 grit?)

2. Fine grit (220 grit?)

3. Steel wool to finish

Do you mind sharing the process you took to get that look on your irons? Did you take off the stickers?

I have to say, that took a look that could have become dated and made it timeless. Beautiful, almost industrial look. They look kind of like the new Cally X Forged. I have a set of VPC's in the basement in great shape. Thought about selling them but this looks so good I may opt for doing something like this.

Always loved the heads. The DG Pro shaft is good, not my favorite. I'd like to try these heads with a PX 5.5, C Taper Lite or maybe a Nippon 120 or 125. They feel great and I love the blunted edge on the sole. They don't dig, yet they don't have too wide of a sole. I think they have a great shape and the Rzn-filled long irons (take that PXG) are easy to elevate.

Of the non-muscleback "players irons," I thought this club was way underrated, my favorite Nike iron and as nice as anything out there.

Looks really good. Also an easy way to refresh old clubs. Makes them cool all over again.

I lost the 9 iron of my VPC original set and bought a used replacement. It is in pretty good shape but not as nice as the rest of the set. The Volt paint is faded and that triangular piece of metal on the back of the club has some pitting. But I think a bit of sanding would take it right out.

Rest of them look great. That's one of the many cool things about this site. Lots of ideas. Those stripped Nikes would sell well if they looked like that brand new!

Assuming you play stiff shafts and I have the right KBS your shaft there, the kbs shafts are all 120g and the AMT shaft is 130g in the wedge flex and decreases by 3g every iron until the 2-3 iron which is 112g.

Appreciate that info man. I think a lot of it has to do with SW. These VPC's are like D2.5. I am used to C9-D0. Might chop of .5" and see how that goes. They are a touch longer than the I200's as well.

I really want to try these AMT S300's out.

I went from the 714 AP2s to the VPCs. I did the MM Proto look on my VPCs. I like the VPCs, but I have a longing for my old AP2s. I hit my AP2s more solidly and with more consistency. I also lost almost a full club length on the VPCs this season. That being said I'm a 15 index so it's pretty obviously me and not the clubs. I'm gonna be in the market for new irons this spring once the weather gets back to normal.

So I haven't bought the VPC yet as I played a round with my friend's Ping iblades last week who is selling them and now I'm on the fence. I really enjoyed the iblades and played well with them. Ball flight and spin was a bit high. They have KBS 90 shafts which are light and I thought I wouldn't be a fan (and I'm not) but they played solid overall. Anyone played both sets and could provide feedback? The iblades will run me $400 more than the VPCs. My challenge is I'm not going to get a chance to try the VPC in order to compare as its someone who has them on sale through a personal ad. Any thoughts on how they compare to Iblades? Thanks!

No idea why, but iBlade did not suit my swing. as I was eager to buy them. Hit them with two shafts and I found them a little more demanding than I'd hoped.

I was coming off a back injury at the time and slowly getting back into it, could have been a factor. Swinging the club much better now.

Regardless, I hit the VPCs better in testing and it carried over to the golf course. I shot the low round of my career with them. The head shape, amount of offset and beveled leading edge all work for me. I would think bounce of VPC and iBlade would be comparable, but I don't know for sure. VPC seem mid-bounce to me. The sole of them is one I like.

First round with the VPC’s and these things are so so good! Freezing would be an understatement for today, topped at at 40 degrees and these bad boys shined. From every lie, they were good, really good. Ball flight was ideal, distance was spot on and didn’t take long to get used to them, coming from the i200s. I’d say they are very comparable as far as forgiveness and distance goes.

I just swapped from the VPCs to the Mizuno MP18 SCs. I played the Nike’s from the first week of release and loved them from the first time I hit them. While the 18s are good, I find myself missing the Nikes. Might have to swap back soon.
