I love this thread. Reading here there are all sorts of vaguely disguised brags. I do em all the time. We reach the thread we're you are 100% green light to brag about whatever you would like and no one does.

I'll list one of each on the same post. I had 47 yes, FORTY FREAKING SEVEN putts two weeks back on a hard as heck course. I shot 90. I struck the ball like a plus 5. I putted like a 36.4. Ouch. Multiple 3 putts from under 6 feet. Ouch. Multiple 3 putts from under 6 feet and still made par. Yes! Ouch! That was the old Larry. New Larry broke down and bought a new putter. New Larry putted fantastically the first round with the new putter too! New putter, new Larry? Nope! New Larry forgot how to make contact with a golf ball on full shots. Drained every putt that he saw though. Shot 94. Old Larry usually played to his HC. New Larry is looking very much the part of a vanity. At least old/new Larry will not be accused of being a sandbagger. He just sucks. So to the guy that says he's the worst 4 HC ever, allow me to introduce Larry. The true winner of worst 4hc golfer on earth. Maybe even beyond. We're past posting season here but a +18 and a +23? (Larry sticks out his chest and points to the 8 re-tees he had enroute to his 94, and will even point out that he made par on 5 of them if it'd been his first shot). Come on now. Vanity cap/crappy golfer Larry approves of this message.

Not only am I extremely good looking, athletic and have ahem, long extremities, I am also smart witty and above all else, humble.

I'll back this up. I played a round with a guy that announced himself on the 1st tee as "justasgood " once. Not only did his knuckles drag on the ground but his armpit hair did as well. :)

I'm simulating sex with J Lo.

I hope it's a good simulated night

Wrong place sir! I'm now permanently scarred by your avatar pic and J Lo. My kids also look at this place too on a somewhat more serious note. I'm not upset, I don't monitor their internet wandering too much, I'm just stating that if they haven't encountered stuff like that than I'd prefer that they have to visit a place that they know is naughty. I.e.not the general golf talk forum. Again I'm not upset I'd just prefer that all replies are something I could show them if I choose to. Have a great night, sounds like you're half way there anyways!

Thus far in 2017.....

  • I didn't make an ace. (Of course I only made one thus far since I have been playing and it was on a stupid temp green at an exec course and hardly worth bragging about/over)
  • I didn't break par for an entire 18.
  • I didn't make any eagles on any par 4's and only made one on a par 5.
  • I spent slightly less than a grand continuing to seek the perfect game fix in the form of equipment and still find myself making head shaking shots. (not in a good way)
  • I stopped cussing as much after making those head shaking shots but they still slipped out now and then.
  • I shot my highest round in a tourney - ever. Largely because I was playing with an injury but still....
  • I bought myself a Truvis to test it out. And lost it on the very first hole I used it on. (apparently not as visible as I had hoped - I lost it in thick grass)

So, after you read the list above you have gotta be asking "Does this guy realize that this is a brag on yourself thread?"

Yes, I do.

Because, after all of the above I still somehow managed to continue loving this game that does not love me back and have stuck with it.

At 50 years young, this past summer, I taught myself to hit a draw. Added about 5-7 additional yards of carry across the bag, and 10 yards with driver.

Sunday, I was working a closest to the pin contest on a simulator (Pebble Beach par 3). About 10 guys hit, and closest was 4 feet. Since no one had hit for five minutes, I stepped up to swing just to get more people in the contest. Ended up backfiring when I stuck it to 3 feet. Had to explain (louder voice) I was an employee and not eligible to win. The best part: Having 5-6 people who saw the shot compliment me on my swing, and a couple were guys who had hit, and I thought THEY had nice swings.

A "moment" shot from last Saturday. Dogleg left par 5 playing just under 520 into a slight breeze. Tried to carry the corner, missed a bit and was in the trees. Punched a 7 iron to get back into play and picked up about 50 yards. The greens were very hard and fast and it was 215 to the front edge with 240 and change to the pin. Can't go straight at it from where I am as there is a bunker short and right. Would never think of going for that as I don't have 240 in the bag with anything other than a driver but WTH, it's the off season and who cares if I mess up.

Aimed at the left edge of the green opened up the stance and figured that would leave a little chip and chance at par.

Career shot. Started out perfectly, started to fade ever so slightly as planned, hit the front edge of the green and started rolling. As mentioned, the greens were hard and sanded and it just kept on rolling and ended up 4 feet past the hole.

Don't ask about the putt...that's shot is for the "I really f'd up thread."

If she only knew.

Fixed!

One of my students went from 1836th in the OWGR last year to 93rd in OWGR this year. And two more this week made it official and signed their national letters of intent to play D1 golf on scholarship.

Congrats! I should bring my 15 yo to you. He doesn't like to listen to dad....

Pretty good year overall:

- Went from 22 to 15 handicap.

- Broke 40 on 9 holes for the first time ever

- Had a ridiculously long drive in our drunken corporate scramble. Couldn't find it where we figured it was, and because it's all just for giggles, no prizes at all, and we were all hammered so I said to my buddy we should drive up 50 yards and drop it there just for giggles (next longest in our group was 50 yards back from where we were looking.) So we drove up and dropped a ball and yelled out to the other two that we had "found" my drive. They drove up (accompanied by a bunch of "holy crap's") and I looked down and found my actual ball, not the one we'd dropped as a joke. No idea how long it was, but it was the furthest I've ever hit a golf ball and it's not even close. Over 300 anyway, which is huge for me.
