Question about Flightscope Xi+

I haven't been on a LM in a loooong time.

A local TopGolf clone uses the Flightscope Xi+ in the bays.

How accurate is the info?

I have apparently lost a few mph of clubhead speed since the last time I was fitted for a driver. But that thing was awesome for playing around with swing feels to see how ballspeed, trajectory, carry, and roll varied.

It’s extremely accurate. It tracks the ball its entire flight and is tracking the clubhead.

The ball data is good, but occasionally the club head speed can get a little off, at least the one I own does. When hitting a driver, if I know I caught it dead center, I just take the ball speed and divide it by 1.49 to get an accurate representation of club speed. The smash factor is different with all clubs.

 

I honestly think the head shape can fool it, I had a buddy was switching from a square driver to a more pear shaped, the square always read 3 to 4 mph more clubhead speed. I hit and noticed the same thing against my driver. I emailed flightscope and they claim it doesn't make a difference, I am not so sure, because of they are using radar to bounce back the speed, I would assume the shape could possibly influence it.

Im not sure shape should matter, its using the clubs relative position over time to calculate speed, so its shape isn't really part of the calculation. Smash factor is different with all clubs because you hit every club differently.

 

Actual smash can change even with two center strikes depending on the quality of the strike, dynamic loft, etc

I didn't see CH speed. I was guestimating it based off ball speed.

On solid, flush hits, I was getting 154 BS, 12.4° launch, and 3450 backspin. I was estimating clubhead speed in the 102-103 range. Last time I was measured (7 years ago) I was 108 to 110.

I assume it might have to do with how it bounces off the club. ie. how a stealth bomber prevents from being tracked by having angles. This is just a guess, but it seemed pretty universal when we switched back and forth from pear to square shaped or maybe my flightscope was just a little off.

They are two different drivers, likely with two different shafts, swing weights, etc.

 

The radar tracks the motion of the club over time, speed is a differential measurement over time, the shape of the club isnt relevant.
